Or as I call it Ronda and friends division because face it if Ronda goes the division goes. UFC is simply milking Ronda for all they can while she's hot. If Ronda were to quit MMA tomorrow I think without a doubt UFC scraps the entire women thing. And that's the main reason I don't like it. There is nothing wrong with building a new division around a hot , popular, skilled star but I truly think if Ronda say loses her next fight to that random masculine girl she's fighitng next and that girl were to say fight some other random ugly girl next there is no way in hell that fight would main event a UFC pay per view, hell it'd be lucky to catch the televised card. So if you want this UFC women's thing to stay you better hope Ronda stays strong for a couple of years so other women fighters in her division to establish their names. I'm very curious what numbers a pay per view with a woman fight headlining and a semi decent under card would do. They're stacking Ronda's under card because they wanna play it safe and I don't blame them but I'm curious how it would turn out if they didn't...

So all in all I gotta say even though I love Ronda I don't really like the division in the UFC simply for the fact that it doesn't have enough good fighters in it but I would take women's 135 ANY DAY over 125 men's. ANY DAY.

judo, imo is the most dominant combat sport for females. i mean, women's freestyle wrestling is still relatively new and judo is the most sponsored fighting sport there is and has been for females. this is why i think rousey's been so dominant. she's had tougher matches in olympic trials and national championships than she's had in mma.

bottom line, i think women's mma has a long way to go. also, in the u.s. there's no division 1 wrestling for females. in many european and asian colleges, judo is a varsity sport for both males and females. that's why a decorated judoka like rousey has such an advantage imo.

I think it's a sideshow and a sham. The talent pool is thin as fuck and as Boss said, the only reason it's even there is to milk Rousey popularity ( just considering they only made 1 division is proof of that ). But just like women boxing, it'll be a fad and soon enough, we won't hear from it anymore. It's just as much as a freakshow as Pride's David vs Goliath bout ( of Goliath vs Goliath for that matters ), the only difference was that these feakshows were fun

The UFC Women's Division is a FAD, w/the Shelf Life of your Typical Boy Band or Parachute Pants...Gina Carano Drummed Up Interest in Women's MMA UNTIL Cyborg Whipped Her Ass...Somewhere Out There, there's an OVERTLY MANLY Bitch that'll Beat the Brakes Off of Rousey & the Women's Division will Subsequently CRUMBLE...

We're Probably 10 Years or MORE from a Time when there'll Be DEPTH in Women's MMA...Right Now, there's 1 or 2 OUTSTANDING Female Fighters & a Shitload of INFERIOR 1's...

I don't disagree with anything said so far. But I will add my 2 cents. First, the majority of the real talent in women's MMA lies outside the UFC and south of 135 or 145 pounds. The most competitive and talent rich divisions are between 106 and 126 pounds.

As previously stated in this thread, the UFC is only adding a female division to milk the popularity of Rousey since Strikeforce is soon to be gone. If the UFC had a legitimate, far-reaching desire to promote and be involved in women's MMA, they would have added more divisions. They would also have scoured the globe to sign the best talent to fill those division.

Right now Rhonda Rousey is a freak show much like Royce Gracie in the early days of the UFC. She has a skill set that other women don't know how to handle. And it's always fun to watch someome who is dominant. If you're a woman training to be a professional fighter, your hope has got to be that the popularity of Rousey on the heels of Carano and Cyborg pushes more and more women into the sport thus improving and deepening the talent pool.

Ultimately women's MMA will probably go away. Once Rousey loses and Cyborg's dick is revealed, there won't be much interest. The key demographic for MMA is men 18-45 years old. That group wants to see the best against the best. They want to watch the NBA not the WNBA. They want to watch Major League Baseball and not chicks playing college softball. They want to watch JDS-Velasquez and not two 106 lbs girls flailing amateurish punches at each other.

I am a fan of female MMA and follow the sport. To me it's like my love of the Little League World Series. Sure it's not a sport being played at the highest level but you're typically going to see two opponents that have the purest and deepest desire to win. I always find that entertaining.

    Hey Trplsec

What if Ronda were to lose to this random chick she's fighting next and get injured in the process and the said chick is champion now and say Sarah Kaufman is the number once challenger. Do you think that CHAMPIONSHIP fight would get a top billing on a UFC card in the summer ? Because I recently watched Dana explain on youtube that Ronda is getting a top billing because it's a championship fight and all championship fights get top billings. Obviously Dana is full of shit and I believe if Ronda is out so is the division...But what do you think ?

Yeah, Dana is full of shit. Minus Rousey or Cyborg, there isn't a female MMA fighter in the world that would get top billing on a UFC card, Championship or not. And I mean any card. Not even a Fuel TV card.

And I'm still pissed about Rousey-Carmouche getting top billing. It robbed us of a 5 round main event between Henderson-Machida. If ever a non-title fight needed to be 5 rounds, it's Henderson-Machida.

I understand the rational of stressing the importance of title fights, but let's be honest, most fans that purchase the UFC 157 PPV will be doing it to watch Henderson-Machida. As popular as Rousey might be, she isn't out-selling Henderson-Machida by fight Liz Carmouche.

By the way, it seems the UFC just hates Dan Henderson. And it makes no sense to me. He deserves a shot at Jones yet has to fight Machida. He is a legend of the sport with a massive following, yet he get second billing to a chick with 6 fights? He is one the most consistently entertaining fights in MMA history and always willing to fight ANYONE, yet continually gets dicked by Dana White and the UFC. I honestly don't get it.

Ya I agree they robbed us of 5 rounds of Machida Hendo. That is as legitimate number one contender fight as it gets and I think those top billing or not should be all given 5 rounds. Although I think it being 3 rounds might actually benefit Dan because he tends to gas late so this way he can give us more of an effort in 15 minutes instead of holding back and pacing himself for 5. I think it also hurts Machida because if it were 5 rounds I would assume Machida would play it somewhat safe for the first three and then pick it up hard in the last 2.

Henderson Should've Been More HONEST to UFC about the Injury which Nixed the Jones Title Shot...It's Been Reported that he Knew WEEKS in Advance that He Wouldn't Be Able to Fight, yet he Waited til Almost Last Minute to Back Out???...

Moreso, he Sat Back & ALLOWED Jones to Take ALL of the Blame for the PPV Being Cancelled Altogether...Bottom Line, Henderson WASN'T All that Concerned w/UFC's Best Interest, so Why Should They Be Concerned w/His???...

Love ya, Trp, but I call BS on you not getting it. You and I both know it stems all from Dan leaving the UFC and signing with Strikeforce. Of course, Hendo should get the Jones fight. Especially since Jones is almost starving for opponents. But Dana is the guy that would bite off his own nose to spite his face. He is a little kid with power. The bullshit that spews out of his mouth is nauseating.

I agree. I don't feel bad for Dan at all. Dan fucked himself over. Why should they trust him this time around ? What if he gets injured again and then come ANOTHER scheduled Jones fight he waits till the day before to tell them he can't fight and ruins another ppv ? He fucked up and now he's paying the price.

I'm actually surprised that the UFC would put him in with Machida because UFC is all about profit and I think Dan vs Jon sells a lot better than Jon vs Machida 2. I would think they would give him some soft touch and save him for Jones in the summer. (Or tell him to wait till summer and not give him any fights)

I should have been clearer. I understand that it's all about Dana carrying a grudge. But even with that component, it's still baffling to me that even Dana would risk a huge selling fight like Henderson-Jones by possibly setting up a Jones-Machida rematch that no one really cares to see. If Machida beats Henderson, the UFC is robbed of a 'new' opponent for Jones.

Sound logic but unfortunately Dana has been absolutely crystal clear about who he puts 100% of the blame on for the card being cancelled. That person is Jon Jones and not Dan Henderson. If holds any of it against Henderson, I haven't seen him vocalize it. And he wouldn't be shy.

I think Dana's hatred with Henderson stems from Hendo jumping ship after his front page destruction of Michael Bisping on the most watched UFC card in history. It was the UFC's mistake however. They should have inked a new contract with Hendo before the Bisping fight. I honestly think they though Bisping would win and Henderson would fade away. Henderson wasn't exactly stellar or exciting in his previous bouts with Franklin and Poulhares.

rousey's badass. if you don't like her, then at least you'll watch her fight to see her lose. it won't happen for a while imo.
