Gamboa vs. Broner

Hadn't considered this matchup before, but Gamboa, on FNF, said he wants the fight. Who do you pick if these guys meet?

I'd pick Broner but I think Gamboa's a live underdog in this one.

 

Based on their most recent couple of fights, I'd have to pick Boner, unfortunately.

I don't think Gamboa can win, but he's probably a better measuring stick than DeMarco.

I like the matchup a lot. I wish it had been at 126 or 130 since I want Gamboa to win and I think Broner is the bigger guy and more suited for 135.
I like to go with the proven am background when you have two guys who look the part in the pros.
Broner's am background is okay, but Gamboa's is excellent.
Without too much confidence, Gamboa's class will show and Broner will resort to potshots. Gamboa 9-3.

 

Broner is considerably bigger. He's younger and still growing. It's a different fight at lightweight than featherweight. Gamboa is more proven as a pro. Gamboa is very fast and will find some openings when Broner tries to block his punches. Once the pace slows, I think Broner controls the action for a decision.

It's really a mismatch.

I have my doubts that Gamboa would even see the 5th.

 

Thinking about it, I don't think this fight has a chance of happening any time soon, and I have my doubts Gamboa truly wants this fight. Rather, I think he wants the publicity that comes with calling Broner out. And evidently, that's exactly what he's gotten.

Gamboa is no more than 2 inches shorter. That won't be significant, what will be significant is the difference in reach. Gamboa has some short little arms, and Broner has I think a 5'11 reach, despite being only 5'7.

I agree. Gamboa is super talented but has this MAJOR flaw. I also see Broner knocking him out because of this.
