He did win it going away, but the rounds I was mostly interested in seeing we're cut short. I don't doubt Garcia's ability to finish string against top-level opposition, I just want to finally check it off the list of unknowns when it comes to him.

I loved the way how they tried to claim Salido intentionnaly headbutted Garcia. Once upon a time, the HBO crew jumped on fighters that played to the doctor to get the fight stopped due to foul ( see Camacho Jr. ). Nowaday, the praise him

Agreed. Boxing should take a page from MMA & require the fighter to "tap" due to an injury of that caliber.

I see it both ways. I thought it was garbage that Robert Garcia made sure to confirm a headbutt with the ref before stopping the fight.

But it was a headbutt. And it wouldn't be fair if Salido stopped him late because of that.

Does anyone remember another Championship fight being stopped by the ringside doctor due to a broken/injured nose caused by an "accidently" headbutt?

I can't remember anything similar but I'm sure the Fightbeat boxing historians will come up with something.

i didnt like how garcia reacted after the headbutt. kinda leads me to believe when the going gets tough he'll fold. real talented and skilled guy, though.

I might be alone with this opinion, but I thought Salido was starting to get to Garcia more and more. And Garcia's punches were no longer having much of an effect. If not for the stoppage, the last few rounds would have been gut check time for sure.

I agree, don't get me wrong, I still think Garcia would have won. But he would have taken his share of punishement in the later rounds

IMO if the broken nose would not had occurred, Garcia was going to stop Salido eventually. The rare occassions Salido landed a hard punch on Garcia it only made Garcia more aggressive.

Now I want to see that coward Gamboa next against Garcia.

Yeah, GGG was on his death bed two days before the fight and still took care of business. I want to see him fight Martinez. I'd pick Golovkin.

I predicted a stunning knockout win for Garcia and I thought he was going to pull it off. Credit to Salido for battling back but looks past it. Crazy ending.

really disappointing how the garcia fight ended. garcia was more impressive than i could've imagined while it lasted, but the ending just put a damper on things.

i have seen stoppages due to broken noses before just can't remember who. also, i think when it's high on the nose it is dangerous, like a broken orbital.

I don't remember a technical go to the cards stoppage from a broken nose from an accidental headbutt.

I can't remember the particulars, but I have a distinct recollection of it because I recall being puzzled by it given how often fighters noses get broken. As I said, a break high on the nose like that is dangerous in a similar way as a broken orbital bone, which is another injury I've seen fights stopped over.
