...OR is he Merely a Guy that Just Had Pac's # (ie., Forrest w/Sugar Shane, Norton w/Ali, Tarver w/Roy Jones, etc.)????....

Pacquiao is better but i think it's more than JMM having his number. He's a great fighter in his own right.

Yeah. Whether you think Pacquiao is better or not, JMM certainly doesn't fit in the same category as Forrest, Norton or Tarver. He's much better than that. Also, let's not forget that JMM has only beaten Pacquiao one time, in four meetings. So it's not like Pacquiao's only claim to superiority is by way of his wins over other fighters. He has two wins over JMM and a draw. You could just as easily conclude from their fights that Pacquiao is better, if only slightly.

I don't even think he's had his number - he's 1-3, for me. A great fighter but i don' think you could make a credible case for rating him above Pac.

He is technically a more sound fighter than Pac for sure. Does that make him better? Not in my opinion.

by what measure? even those who argue he is better (wrongly in my opinion) can't reasonably think he's "clearly" better.

he beat the guy 3 times and is simply an all around better fighter. marquez is a legend, pacquiao is a false prophet.

Beat him once, twice if you wanna be very generous. The rest of his career doesn't come close to matching Pacs

Pacquiao is better and I can't answer the poll because I won't even concede that JMM has his number. JMM matches up well with Pacquiao, that's not 'having his number.'

Pacquiao doesn't go life and death with guys like Juan Diaz and Katsidis. Pacquiao doesn't have close fights with guys like Norwood or John.

Pacquiao isn't a PED using piece of shit like JMM, either.

I am kidding on one of those sentences.

Say what you will about Pac being on PED's, but he never just transformed into a monster in a short period of time like JMM did.

For what it's Worth, REED Thought Marquez was ROBBED in the 2nd Fight (As Did Pac, Based on his Facial Expression, Upon Hearing the Verdict)...The 3rd Fight was Either a Draw OR a Marquez Victory & Obviously the KO in the 4th...REED Thought Manny Won the 1st Fight CLOSE but Clear...

By REED's Count, Pac is 1-2-1 & EASILY Could Be 1-3 vs. Marquez...What's UNDENIABLE is that Marquez has Won MORE ROUNDS, in his 4 Fights w/Pac...

Not on the judges cards he didn't REED. Or else JMM would have more than 1 win over Pac, which he does not.

3-1 Is how I see it.

Well, to me, it looked like Pacquiao was getting ready to start winning every round against JMM before he got ktfo.
Speculation, of course, but I thought he was really starting to do well.
Not all that different from Chiquita vs Sorjaturong, I suppose.

Would both of these guys beat a prime Zab? If one cannot, than the other is greater.

Yeah those fights were real similar. One was an outright robbery, the others were close fights. It's not like I'm sitting here saying Pac won a fight he was dominted in. You should be ashamed for making this comparison.

I don't think a single one of Pacquiao's fights with JMM was as one sided as his fight with Bradley. And I'm guessing most would agree with me. No possible case could be made for giving that decision to Bradley. None. On the other hand, there's plenty of debate to be had over who won any of the first three Pacquiao/JMM fights.

Oddly enough, I think JMM's best performance of the three fights was in their first fight. In that one, he truly controlled the action and with the exception of the first round, seemed to counter Pacquiao's every move.

In the second and third, I thought Pacquiao took the play away. They were still close fights, but unlike in the first, I didn't ever view JMM as being in control the way he was throughout most of the first fight.

Bottom line, REED needs to go home take a shower and wash the shame off after making that comparison.

I have it 2-1-1 JMMbop and I am much more of a Pac fan. Still, I'd say Pacquiao is the greater fighter.

This is an old drum to bang but I could not see a way to score the second fight for Pac. At best he lost by a point. The first fight was Pac's, the third was very tight, but for me the second was the most clear of the first three fights.

As to the OP, Pacquiao is greater and better, but JMM is also great. Dude is a tremendous combination puncher (or was until he juiced up and decided the only way to win was to load up on single shots) and he is as durable as any fighter of this era. I have always been a big JMM fan.

The final shot actually was part of a combination. If you watch, JMM did in fact follow up the right hand with a left hook to the body. It mostly missed - I imagine because of Pacquiao's free-fall.

I see your point. Obviously, he seemed more focus on one-punch power in his latest fight, compared to the rest. But I don't think his style was materially different in the fight.

I thought Pac won the first, the second was a draw, the third fight Marquez won pretty clearly IMO.
