I know a lot of people HATE Calzaghe, just as I used to.

But objectively, he is very awkward - and has elite workrate, chin, speed, and stamina for his weight class. He is very difficult to beat, despite looking shitty and sloppy much of the time, not unlike Vitali.

Vitali is more like Mike Alvarado with a height advantage.

up until the last few years of his career he was basically on par with Sven Otke :laugh11:

so no, he's not one of the best fighters ever

I never got the Ottke comparison, sure he fought a lot of the same guys but he always beat them in a far more dominant fashion.

There's only a comparison because he was a beltholder at the same time and fought a lot of the same guys. Anyone with eyes could see that Joe was clearly better however.

If Calzaghe had a good trainer from 1997 onwards...one who taught him how to punch properly, he'd have been one of the greatest, for sure...

Calzaghe's trouble wasn't the lack of punching technique but holding his weight on his front foot which ultimately led to his failure

one thing Calzaghe did well was to mix up his power. he'd throw some fast and light shots but then mix in a couple with some real mustard on 'em and it always seem to do damage.

Nah, Calzaghe kept his head more central than a classic back foot stance but he led off his back footallot. YOU SLAAAG.

“Those pitty pat punches he throws were a little harder than I thought. I couldn't see out of my left eye.” Roy Jones

"He thinks he's a puncher, I don't see that," Lacy told BBC Sport. "He hits with his hands open, slaps with certain punches":

 Wasn't one of the dirtbag Diaz brothers scheduled to fight Lacy not long ago? You gotta take Left Hook off the "notables" on Joe's resume, no? I think shit of all forms is offended by the comparison to Jeff Lacy.
