The prelims are on Facebook now. Pretty good main card. I think the Barao-McDonald main event should be fun. Cub Swanson has also gotten hot lately so it will be interesting to see how he handles a good fighter in Dustin Poirer. But the bout I am most looking forward to is Gunnar Nelson's fight against Jorge Santiago. It's his second in the UFC. In his debut back in September, the undefeated Nelson easily choked out Demarques Johnson. Santiago isn't world class but he's a great barometer to see how good Nelson actually is.
Three thoughts from the card. 1) Gunnar Nelson needs to learn to respect opponents. There were times Santiago made him look silly in the striking. If Santiago didn't tire badly, it would have been interesting. 2) Cub Swanson might be the most entertaining fighter in the UFC. Everything he does is aimed at finishing the fight. He mixes up his strikes, wings big punches and never relaxes on the ground. 3) Michael McDonald was way to laid back. I know he's a counter-puncher but he needed to attack far more frequently. Decent card and it was on free TV.
Definitely enjoyed the card. Very impressed with Cub Swanson. I kind of wrote this kid off when he got choked out quick by Jens Pulver, but he has proved some shit to me. I love his tenacity, and like Trp said always tries to finish. good shit Barao looked good, one thing that comes to mind. He is next on the list for Cruz. I have heard "if" Cruz's rehab goes as planned they will fight this summer. Cruz hasn't fought since October 2011. If he doesn't fight Barao this summer he should be stripped of the title.
I didn't think Barao looked all that good in the first two rounds and I was sort of impressed with McDonald. A lot of that has to do with me rating Barao very high, I suppose. Uriah Faber is overrated by the UFC.
They should just save Cruz the asswhooping and strip him of the title. McDonald is still really young and has a ton of potential. Hopefully this loss is a good thing for him and makes him work even harder. But seriously, Cruz still being champion is a joke. TFK
