    Could happen May 18th.

    Who wins?

I've got Lucas by late KO, but it's a great matchup!

Good fight, but while I like the style of both guy's, I gotta pick Mathysse big. Peterson had trouble with the power of Ortiz ( and Khan too ) and Mathysse is far better than him.

Not sure Peterson is tough enough to fight his fight against Mathysse.

they asked Peterson about this fight in a interview following the Holt fight and he explained he wouldn't have to go looking for Lucas the way he did Khan and Holt, and that he'd have the opportunity to box more. i'm not so sure how well that plays out. obviously, Peterson doesn't want to stand and trade with Lucas. But on the other hand, he doesn't want to go backwards all night either. he's going to have to walk that tight-rope that only the best fighters in the world have been able to walk, in which they keep a strong and aggressive puncher like Mathysse on his heels without putting themselves in harm's way.

Gotta agree there. Matthyse's style in contrast to what Peterson needs to do to win doesn't jive. I'll root for Pete, but he's likely going to drown mid to late IMO.

Agreed with the first part. Disagreed with the 2nd part, if we're talking about NOW.

Judah in his prime was better than Peterson.

The Judah of the last few years isn't better than Peterson.

Peterson would beat the shit outta Zab at this point.

Matthyse is not this unbeatable superman that a lot of people make him out to be.

The guy gets hit a lot, and you don't have to hit a guy hard to hurt him, you need to hit him him clean and Peterson is very good at doing that.

I'd like to see this fight. I think Peterson's pretty good, better than I initially thought he was, but I don't thing he would beat Matthyse.
I think Matthyse would stop him late but I do think Peterson would be competitive into the middle rounds.

The point is that Zab made it close enough to get the nod. Also the fact that Zab is so chinny and Mattysse is being hyped as some beast but he couldn't stop china chin Zab.

I'm a big Mathysse fan but I don't want to hear any excuses from him. This is his make or break fight imo, he got to win, and win big if he wants to ever become a star

Peterson doesn't present the same kind of problems Judah presented (for what it's worth, I thought Matthyssssssssssse deserved the nod) and it is not like he can't be hit... I slightly favor Lucas to win but this is a fight, like Azazel said, that will show for sure if he has truly improved to the next level or if he is destined to be a dangerous, but not top-level guy

you guys dont think it hurts matthysse to be traveling from fucking argentina 3 days before the fight? youre talking about a 15 hour travel day to arrive early thursday morning. then he has to make weight the next day, then fight a legitimate top 5 super lightweight saturday.

I'm with you on this. Peterson sucks, though. I think Matthyse should be able to handle him, even with the travel issues.

peterson is skilled and knows how to fight. he has clearly improved over the years. still not much of a puncher though, nor is he a guy with the movement to trouble matthysse from the outside all fight.

That's where I'm at with this fight, as well... That is the biggest reason I favor Matthyssssse, even with the travel stuff

Anthony Peterson and Walter Matthysse aren't in the same weight class.

Why is this at 141lbs though and no titles on the line? What's with that?

Doesn't bother me. As long as the fight is 12 rounds and the winner fights Garcia, I'm cool.

141 just means a little less sweating.

Yeah, that's koo' and it'll be a very good fight too. The winner has to face Garcia. We demand it!
