Golden Boy just called my boy Curt 'The Hurt' Harper yesterday (03/05/13) to fill in and take on undefeated heavyweight, Gerald Washington. The fight is in Indio, California. He just landed a few minutes ago. This kid, Washington, is a former TE from USC. However, he's 30 years old and has had all of his 6 or 7 fights in the last 12 months. He is managed by Al Haymon. Curt is 7-1, and has been on a tear since his first loss in his first fight (a fight he should not have taken for a debut against a former Cuban National team member). What's even better is Curt was already in training because he was scheduled to fight in Indonesia later this month. He was at 248 pounds last week, the lightest he's been in his whole career! As for a storyline, Curt played LB in HS and for a short time at a small college in N.C. I believe this may be a case of GB and Haymon finding out if their guy has the goods, so he's fighting Curt to see if he's worth the continued investment. My BIASED opinion is Curt is going to bang him out. In reality, Curt is going to bang him out.
Pretty cool to have a friend being a pro boxer. Do you also train him sometimes ? And what's a TE ??? A position in football ?
I don't train him. I've known him since he was 15. I watched his amateur career and covered him as a HS football player. In fact, back in Aug. '05, I put on an amateur show here in Jacksonville the day before Katrina hit. The storyline was, he was going to play his HS football game on Friday night and fight on Saturday. As it turned out, all of the HS games were delayed a day because of Katrina, and he ended up having to play on that Saturday. At the weigh-in, he was outside the building telling me how he wanted to weigh-in! A little while before that, his HS coach, who is a good friend of mine called and told me I better not let him fight because they needed him. I really believe he's going to win big tomorrow night.
[SUP][/SUP] Thanks, REED I think Curt is going to knock him out. Do me a favor and tell me what you think if they show his fight. I think Curt has the talent to be a fighter to be taken seriously.
Will Do, Bro... REED's Only Guessing, but Curt's is Probably the SWING Fight, so if the 1st Televised Fight Ends EARLY Enough, we'll Likely See Curt in Action... REED:mj:
Shobox is on here tonight. I'll be watching for sure. But I'm pretty sure they usually just show two fights?
My boy lost. He says the ref took it from him. I really thought he'd get this guy. Gotta move on, starting tonight. I thank you guys for your support!
Lets make this the Shobox thread... This kid Santos knows how to throw punches. Educated with the left hand. Stopped a 7-1 guy in the 1st. He's now 10-0 (9)
He was stopped in the 5th round of a 6 round fight. The ref stopped the fight during an exchange. I guess the house wins again. He's upset of course, but he's 24, he still has time to make some noise. He should try to get hooked up with 50. Someone is always looking for a young heavyweight with promise.
Sounds like he was Competitive, While Getting Stopped...Not the End of the World or a Career, by Any Means... Matchmakers are ALWAYS Looking for Guys that'll Go Rounds, yet Come up Short, so He'll Continue to Get Calls to Fight NAME Heavyweights...Hopefully he Catches 1 of them SLIPPING Eventually... Tell your Homey to Keep his Head Up & STAY in the Gym...If he Didn't Get Beaten Up Toooo Bad, he Should be Back in the Gym by Monday...The Thing is, Guys are Gonna PURPOSELY Call him on Short Notice, so it's IMPERATIVE he STAY Ready so he Doesn't have to GET Ready... Keep Us Posted on his Progress... REED:mj:
