yeah he didn't wanna get caught in one of those nasty submissions from Sonnen, that's why he is greasing himself up.
To make Sonnen slide off of him during the clinch? It's obvious he's taking it off his face and wiping it elsewhere to make himself slippery.
It's not like there was enough vasoline on his face to make a difference. It's just pissed off Sonnen fans making a big deal out of nothing.
Exactly.... Correct REED if he's Wrong, but Isn't the Ref RIGHT THERE Examining Both Fighters, just Before they Enter the Cage, Checking for Vaseline & Other Things???...REED SWEARS he's Seen Refs Make Guys Wipe Their Faces, PRIOR to Entering the Cage... REED:mj:
But the point is that Vaseline is applied to the fighter's face before they enter the cage. Silva is clearly rubbing his face and then rubbing his body. Again, it doesn't seem to me like it would be enough to make any difference even though a little bit of Vaseline does get slippery as shit when mixed with sweat.. Regardless, it is interesting that he clearly is transferring it from his face. I didn't catch that during the fight.
It COULDN'T have Been Enough Vaseline to Make a Difference, Because Sonnen Took Silva DOWN, Less than 10 Seconds Into the Fight, Right??? REED :dunno:
The fact that it didnt make a difference means fuck all. The point is that Silva is clearly cheating. And the Vas is not so much to stop the take downs, but to avoid the being held down or in a specific position.
That was my first thought as well. But then think about the sweat and Vaseline combo. It might actually get more slippery as the fight goes. I really have no idea. It's just interesting that it is clear as day that Silva is intentionally going from his face to his arm and body and then back again. And techincally Anthony is right. Illegal is illegal regardless of whether it helped. Headbutts aren't only illegal when they cause a cut.
