Agreed. His footwork was a joy to watch last night.

It's not like he's jumping about or using speed either. He's always just seems to be over there. Must be infuriating.

I had the same score, although I could devils advocate another round or two at max for Donaire.

exactly... you had two guys who do their best work when someone tries to get aggressive with them... two pure counterpunchers... the difference between them is that one of them is much more skillful in motion

Donaire is more of a stationary, move only as necessary counterpuncher, like a James Toney... Rigo is more like a Whitaker in the sense that he will use lateral movement to walk a man into a shot ... when you get two guys like that against one another, you get a chessmatch with little action and the fellow with the better legs usually wins

Dan Rafael has some serious sour grapes when it comes to Rigo, hasn't given him an ounce of credit.

Gotta give you your props too, you've been calling yesterdays outcome since as long as I can remember. How high up in weight do you think Rigondeaux could go, Neil? He's got a small frame but there are some fascinating match ups north of 122.

Whitaker was definitely apt to fight at closer range in tight circles at ring center when he was Lightweight champ, though

But Whitaker was never, ever a fan favorite... I loved him because he was a genius and I suspect those that liked him did for the same reason, but all I ever heard from 90% of boxing fans was "boring"

I'd have to rewatch it but I think you have to give Donaire the 4th. He rubber legged Rigo. In a fight as low action as that you have to score when somebody lays hurt on I think.

    no leap amateur shit

that was Locche-esque at times last night... I can't think of a higher "purist" compliment

You guys are bonkers. I'm starting to get the same feeling Larry Merchant used to get when they asked him if he would sit in on a fight with Kellerman.

Bunch of fucking purists, you guys are.

Yep. There was this point where he was walking by the ropes, does this half step forward, then quickly back, then forward again. Nonito look baffled, I had to laugh a bit, it was cool to watch and I was pretty stoned.

no doubt... his ability to suddenly change direction was remarkable... sharp as a razor

Dan Rafael is an ignorant blimp who doesnt know much about boxing. I think he shouldnt go any higher than featherweight. the guy is very disciplined and has been at or near 118lbs since he was a teenager. just doesnt seem to be in the cards for him to have a great legacy as a pro considering the talent around him is mostly with golden boy (russell jr, mares, santa cruz)

I think he's better than Mayweather. Although I have an unsavory history of overreacting immediately after big fights

BTW, let me get this off my chest - Kellerman and Lederman both need fucking murdered. HBO is totally unwatchable now.

Well, he just notched a win as impressive as any of Floyd's, IMO... so it isn't that crazy

I haven't seen a whole lot of Rigondeaux so I didn't make a prediction. However on paper this what should have been expected. I did have some more hope of "violence" based upon what each guy could potentially do with one punch. Rigo was comfortable and Donaire didn't do enough to take him out of that zone.

  19. Hut*Hut

    Hut*Hut The Mackintosh of temazepam

A much better win than any of Floyds, IMHO.

Im sure there is a brian vera fight you can look forward to, larry.

for all the talk of rigondeaux being boring, whenever donaire did manage to land decent shots he was jolted right back with more cleaner/harder punches from EL Chacal. if anything the onus should have been on donaire to get more aggressive after he was basically down 6 zero.

Agreed on Rafael. It would be a shame if politics got in the way but you're probably right on the Golden Boy situation. I think Russell will be fantastic in a couple if years, my favourite US prospect at the moment. That would be a fight I'd like to see down the line if everything worked out.

what was with rigo pushing donaire's head down so much? it meant donaire couldn't hit rigo on his way out.

yeah Rigo was even better than I expected but it basically went to script. won me nine quid too, way hey

  24. cdogg187

    cdogg187 GLADYS

yeah, I'd be hard-pressed to think of a better one... The complete humiliation of Corrales was extremely impressive and Floyd's greatest moment, IMO, but Corrales was not in Donaire's class

  25. Neil

    Neil tueur de grenouilles

good call ! i think it was probably the main reason he was able to win the fight.

The guy who "dominated" the fight never landed more then 13 punches until the final round.

Sorry, I need a bit more aesthetic to my dominance.

Rigon get Ko'ed by Juanma in his next fight.....and will go back to being Gamboa lite....talking about Gamboa the fuck has he been doing with himself?

    Trplsec Sleeps in a Cage

I thought Rigindecuban won all but one round. But even that near whitewash doesn't qualify as domination when he's winning rounds by out-landing Donaire 6 punches to 3.
