The fact that Foster had to really beef up just to weigh 185 pounds or so tells you all you need to know about why his greatness never translated to heavyweight he gets wobbled by the first jab he takes in this one
Complete mismatch. Foreman destroys Foster, who was never really a heavy...even when he weighed in over the Light-Heavy limit.
I honestly think foreman could rock him with a jab the drop s drawers and ram it in bob fosters corn hole
I rate Bob as the Greatest Light Heavyweight Ever, but he would be no match for Foreman. Bob would have to come right out looking to nail him and he would (something that Roman and Norton didn't do) get in a few licks before George crushes him early. Foreman had terrific timing, jabbing ability and ring movement when he was young, but he threw it all out the window after the first Frazier knockout when he just started swinging for the fences without setting much anything up and just trudging forward forsaking defense looking to murder these guys with wild and roundhouse swings.
The overused 100mph Ferrari vs 60mph mac truck analogy's never been more apt. Foreman KO 2. BTW, where do you's think Foster would have campaigned today? Difficult to imagine a guy who had to force himself up to 182lb fighting at lightheavy in the era of day before weigh ins and 20lb refeeds. Middleweight?
Foster knocked Ali out in sparring for the 1960 Olympics when he was the middleweight alternate and Ali was the light heavyweight representative. Mills Lane was an alternate on the team as well and he verified Foster's version of the story. Boxing history was made when Mills Lane refereed their pro fight in Stateline, Nevada as all three were finalists in the trials. On another historical note: Bob Foster was the referee for the Joe Frazier - Jimmy Ellis rematch in Australia.
