Outside of Roy in the 90's, Paulie is BY FAR the best fighter commentator there's ever been. He might only be a good fighter, but as an analyst, he's an all time great. After Broner beats his ass, hopefully he retires and becomes a full-time analyst. I look forward to hearing him on Showtime for years to come.
Yeah, he's been good in the broadcast booth. It would be one of the funniest things in the world if he beat Broner but that's never going to happen.
I don't see what there is to hate about Paulie as a fighter. He has no pop whatsoever, and knows he has no pop, yet he's never fought like a bitch. Always boxes, and holds his ground. Is a tough guy with a solid chin, has never been afraid to face anyone, and has heart. He won't beat Broner, simply because Broner is a much better talent, but as always he'll try his best, and go out in game fashion.
This. You gotta respect Paulie. He really makes the most of what he's got. As for commentating I agree Paulie has done an excellent job on the fights I have seen
Agreed. I hated Paulie until the Cotto fight (iirc), he showed balls the size of boulders in that fight. Never backed down for a second even though he was not only completely outgunned physically, it was a terrible style matchup for him (Cotto was always very good at hunting down movers & cutting off the ring).
he's a featherfisted dancer who doesn't box all that well... when he's not getting beaten up by the guys with pulses he has fought, he's as dull as watching paint dry
His schooling of Ndou in their first fight was actually pretty fun to watch. And both his schoolings of the Baby Cow were fun to watch. You can't fault him for getting the most outta what he's got. Zero power whatsoever, and decent speed, but nothing special in that area.
His fights with Diaz were terrible, X two powerless slappers with one-dimensional "skills" (Malinaggi's "speed" and Diaz's "inside game") engaging in awkward contest guaranteed to go the distance... he hardly "schooled" Diaz, he simply out-sped him and got jobbed on the cards
I used to hate his guido persona but now I think he's one of the nicer and funnier guys in the sport.
Paulie claims Broner was once a fan! ! http://www.boxingscene.com/malignaggi-says-photo-proves-broner-fan--65611
I disagree. I thought Tarver was just as good and far more professional than Paulie. Some of Paulie's content is lost (on me) because of the annoying Brooklyn accent.
Paulie's accent is fucked up though i prefer commentators who speak english properly and clearly...like Foreman
Paulie is a good announcer, but not as good as some of you make him out to be. He has an annoying voice
REED Grew Up in the Midwest, Went to College in the Southeast & RESIDES in the Southwest....While CLEARLY Possessing a Northeastern/Brooklyn Cat Accent, Paulie's is EASILY Decipherable for REED...Paulie's SMART Enough to Slooooooow his Speech Down, when he's Broadcasting... The Guy Giving Adrien Broner Verbal Asswhipping's ISN'T the Same Guy Doing Showtime Telecasts...Paulie CAN'T Punch a Lick, but VERBALLY, he's a Fuckin' BEAST.... REED:hammert:
yeah, I'm thinking some of those complaining about Malignaggi's accent aren't too familiar with a strong New York accent... his is pretty mild
paulie is good i agree, but it's not like there's been a lot of active, verbose pro fighters who's had the opportunity he did behind the mic. i even thought tarver was pretty good.
