jury is out on this one. at 22 alvarez hasnt reached his peak. though he may not be able to stay at 154 for much longer so then again maybe this is as good as it gets for him

Alvarez wouldn't beat the Oscar that fought Mayorga, let alone the one that fought Vargas.

    DLH by slaughter.

Seems I'm still the guy on the board with the highest opinion of Canelo. He's at least as good as the Vargas Oscar fought

I disagree. The roided, faded Vargas of that night would have beaten Canelo.

DLH of 02 was still fast, and sharp, and he'd be much too fast and sharp for Canelo's midget ass to handle.

Not saying Canelo's a BAD fighter, he's not.

Yet at the same time, I don't consider him the same calibre as a DLH, Tito, or younger Mosley.

I feel like Canelo's a smarter and more composed fighter than Vargas. And Oscar tended to make most fights difficult for himself. Also, Canelo's relaxation suggests a guy who's got allot of faith in his chin

Canelo's heavier handed than Vargas, that's about it. Pre-Tito, Vargas was better than Canelo at damn near every facet, minus power.

It's possible I'm underrating Canelo, but I think you've forgot how good Vargas was and you're slightly overrating how good Canelo is.

I have a Feeling Canelo's relaxation has at least as much to do with a suspect gas tank... you know me, I love relaxed fighters, they are frankly WAY BETTER than their counterparts 99 times out of 100, but I don't know if Canelo is relaxing like Archie Moore or James Toney... I think he may be relaxing like a guy who gets exhausted if he throws more than 5 combinations in 3 minutes

Whether Canelo is better or not than FADED Vargas is debatable. Either way, Canelo loses to any version of Oscar except for the versions that fought Steve Forbes, and Pac.

Oscar whoops him bad. He'd cut through him with his quick hands and he'd definitely stop Canelo within 8 rounds. It would be kind of easy.

I still think Canelo is overrated. I don’t think he beat Golovkin or Lara in any of those fights.

I hated Oscar then and now, but he’s still for my money, too fast and mobile for the 5’8 Ginger.

I said it would be a slaughter, but granted, that was 2013.

Oscar would beat the shit outta the Canelo of 2013.

The Canelo of circa 2016, and it's a closer fight... HOWEVER, I still feel Oscar edges it at 154. Let's not forget, Canelo still dropped about 4 rounds against a faded Cotto. He wasn't some beast at 154.

At 160, definitely Canelo. Oscar wasn't shit at 160.

It would have been a great fight to watch, but Oscar had more tools in his bag than Canelo. DLH via UD.

Canelo on PEDs at 160 probably beats Oscar because Oscar was not in shape at 160 pounds. But even Felix Sturm beat Oscar at 160 so that’s nothing major.

On their best days with everything on the up and up (No catch weights or hydration clauses, no PEDs, no contaminated meat), Oscar wins a clear UD.

Oscar is the one who gets Canelo these bullshit decisions in the first place.

Oscar of the early 2000s would still win at 154. At 160, Canelo would win.
