But What would the Total Gate Be???... REED Recalls a Hatton or Calzaghe Fight, Back in the Day, that Drew Something like 30-40,000 yet the Live Gate was LESS than that of a Run of the Mill MGM Grand, HBO Televised Main Event...40k is Realistic in the UK Because Ticket Prices are CONSIDERABLY CHEAPER... REED:hammert:
People always care about "added dimensions". "Functional Weight Advantages"....."hasn't fought beyond the 10th before, Al"...etc etc etc. They have been used to make routine assignments "dangerous" and "interesting".
And this is the added dimension. The crowd basically carried Hatton to a win over Tszyu. It could make a difference, a lot more than "functional weight advantages" and "Oh, he's been forced to wear the Grant gloves, Al" bullshit that the networks are usually happy to pretend constitute a big difference. Ward might get spooked, think he is behind on the cards, have his corner {who have themselves not really been tested} telling him that the fight "could be close, you need to finish strong"...causing him to walk onto something. Long shot perhaps but a damned sight closer than the usual tripe that supposedly makes for "potentially close fights" :shit: 50,000 screeching loons did for McClellan and Tszyu as much as Benn and Hatton did. It can be a game changer. Ward and his people know it is just too much effort. Reminds me of when Junior Jones went to Mexico to fight Erik Morales and Jones manager was saying he was not crazy about an "American fighter going to Mexico to fight a Mexican in his hometown during a Mexican holiday for a title belonging to a Mexican organization {WBC}"
Less than a run of the mill MARQUE Las vegas event, perhaps. But not less than an Andre Ward fight. 'Like I said before' (©PBF) the last fight attracted a paying gate of TWO THOUSAND in Atlantic City according to the reports I read. Ward can't sell shit.
Ward's a WEST COAST Cat who ROUTINELY Packs 10,000 Asses In Seats in Oakland...To Say he CAN'T Sell Shit is INACCURATE, Bro... REED:hammert:
Froch can do 40,000 in a football stadium. Throw in British TV and it goes way beyond conventional Ward-fare and approaches marquee Vegas pay-day status.
Again, "40,000" SOUNDS Good, but that Vast Majority of them are Paying MINIMAL Prices, Comparatively Speaking...Even PPV Prices are SIGNIFICANTLY CHEAPER, in Frochland... REED:hammert:
agREED... Froch has Options ASIDE from Ward...He Should Pursue Them...Froch-Kessler III, Froch-Hopkins (Froch just MIGHT Be the Guy to FINALLY DICTATE to Bernard Hopkins, on Fightnight), Froch-Pascal II...Possibly even Froch-Bute II, if Lucian's RE Clause hasn't Expired (& if he FANCIES a Re-Do, More Importantly)... Froch is a MUST-SEE Fighter for Hardcore Fans...Even if a Particular Bout of his ISN'T Shown in America, it Doesn't Take Looooooong for REED to Visit Youtube, to Check it Out.... REED:hammert:
Ward definitely has a following in the Bay Area, but that's it. He will never be a PPV fighter in the States.
Only for the Kessler fight, I think it was 11,000. Dawson was 8500 Abraham was 5300 Bika was 4000 Dawson and Bika were in Oakland, Abraham was in Carson Ca.
According to the article I read about the Froch fight Ward's promoters bullshitted the official numbers that night so there's a chance those might be inflated, too
