The Gamboa Fight was DREADFUL...Andre Ward NAILED it when he Said Something to the Affect of Gamboa Having "All the Tools", but No Clue as to WHEN to APPLY those Tools...& That's Pretty RARE for a Highly Touted Cuban Fighter...Until Gamboa Fights Top 10 Level Opposition, REED has Very Little Interest in Watching him Fight Again...

Gamboa has actually looked worse recently, he cant even manage to look impressive against scrubs.

I have no interest in him at all now either. He is a little prick too. When Broner first came on the scene I thought Gamboa would win easily, but based on their recent form you'd have to favour Broner in a big way.

Both the Maidana-Lopez and Dawson-Stevenson stoppages are being called premature by some, but I just don't see it in either case.

Chad's legs were GONE, and he was unresponsive when prompted to raise his hands. It reminded of how Milt McCrory was after getting dropped by that first Curry left hook. That fight should have been stopped as well, as McCrory was GONE after the left hook. Instead, he took another follow of right that really put his lights out.

Something similar would have happened to Chad, so I have zero complaints.

And in Maidana-Lopez, WHOesito was out on his feet and taking flush shots against the ropes without return fire. That stoppage was fine as well.

 

Chad's Legs WERE Unsteady, but he Had Enough Wits about him to Use the Ropes for Balance...The Ref Asked him if he was OK & Chad Indicated he WAS...His Eye's DIDN'T Seem All that Glazed Either...

VERY Likely, the Next Series of Shots ENDS the Fight for Good, but REED Would've Preferred the More Definitive Finish, Personally...

When I think of a "premature stoppage", I think back to Ruddock-Morrison.

 

A tad early. Ruddock was out but woke up when his big melon head hit the canvas. He then took a standing 8 and was being tagged cleanly. I've seen worse.

If its a poor stoppage it is because Tommy was tired and there was only a few seconds left in the round.

Dawson now compares similarly to Jermain Taylor in some obvious ways, but I think he is a better fighter than Taylor.

With the right state of mind, Dawson gets back into the top 10 p4p. Most fighters aren't able to do this, though.
I'm not betting on Dawson being able to do it, either, but he has the talent and ring generalship to beat anyone at 175 if he isn't broken.

Gamboa didn't invest in anything that was cumulative against Perez. I'd like to see him go to the body more.
Although he claimed to be working on fighting different styles, he didn't have any infighting game to speak of.
