X and anyone else needs to rethink Maidana...

Many have said that Maidana is crappy because he lost a decision to Khan in a fight he won and was nearly drowned in stink by Alexander. What do these people say now in light of Maidana's impressive victory over the very game Lopez?

 

Well, I don't want to speak for Xplosive, but I think what he has to say is something like "He's not very good, but marginally better than a pretty average fighter in Lopez".

 

Anybody that trades with Maidana at 147 will have problems. Anyone with a scintilla of boxing nous will beat him. He lost to Khan, Button Masher Supremo. Khan nearly had him out in the first round, lets just remember this.

 

He's a great action fighter and a treat to watch but I don't think he's much more than a B class fighter.

 

Maidana didn't beat Khan. He lost a razor thin decision he could have won if he wasn't such a crude slugger.

Maidana's not bad. Ballsy guy with a lot of heart, power, and good powers of recovery. His weaknesses remain the same; minimal skill, no defense, and not the best chin.

I can't think of any elite fighter he would beat. He might beat a guy like Alvarado, or Rios.

Matthysse would waste him, and you tell in the post-fight interview that he isn't exactly in a rush to fight Lucas.

 

Maidana is what he is, a crude tough-as-nails slugger. Fun to watch & a guy you'd want on your side in a bar fight, but not necessarily a guy you'd bet on in the ring.

But man, I still marvel at how he got up from that body shot from Khan in the 1st. Man is forged from iron. That attribute would only make him suffer longer against Matthysse, though.

 

He almost pulled it off. Nearly!

Alexander/Maidana was about as debatable a fight as Germany/Poland

Maidana is an action brawler with a lot of heart... he gets hit a lot, he gets hurt a lot, he comes back from both... he's fun

He's also not particularly good and will cop a beating from anyone elite or semi-elite

 

Agreed big time. I didn't see the Lopez fight but the Maidana fight was probably Alexander's most impressive fight and he did not beat Maidana with stink at all. He stayed in the pocket boxing and moving and he wasn't running. Xander beat Maidana with good sound boxing, and Double L needs to realize that and drop his biased favortisms before he starts ridiculous threads like this. Maidana is a sloppy, limited skilled fighter who waited to long to try to add skills to his repertoire.

 

anyone who watches maidana's offense and thinks it's simply slugging needs to look closer. maidana has very quick hands, exceptional accuracy, and great timing.

yes. he succumbed to alexander's stink fighting, and allowed khan to be saved by the ropes. but he's on his way to bigger things.

and those with the crazy notion maidana is afraid of mathysse? isn't it more likely he doesn't play that fight up for business reasons? it's not like mathysse is clamoring for it either. and for the time being, besides having bigger fights to chase, the two aren't even fighting in the same division.

I refuse to entertain notions of "look closer" with regard to a crude brawler like Maidana from a guy who watches Pernell Whitaker dissect people and comes up with "it's just running and clinching"

At point blank range, Maidana is probably one of the most dangerous fighters in his weight class. Apart from that I am not sure he has a whole load. He lacks the footwork, fluidity and brains to do a whole load from the outside. This is a guy who was damned near stopped by Amir Khan in the first round. He also pushes his shots when he should really be letting them go. Alexander is also a relatively average fighter.

 

Double L likes fighters from the Latin phylum.

Maidana's transformation is not being noticed. He is not the same fighter who fought Khan or Alexander.
