One of my all-time favorite moments... Norris thought he had another faded Welterweight to beat up... no such luck... undone by a THUNDEROUS jab

Norris looks smaller than I remember. I recall him looking like a pretty big 154 pounder, but here he basically looks like a welterweight to me. I guess it's because fighters are getting bigger and bigger for their weight class now, taking advantage of the system, and cutting like crazy.

I like Simon Brown, I tend to like Jamaican fighters.

I am amazed at how small and sloppy Norris looks. He really was a very sloppy fighter. I would love to have seen him fight Arthur Abraham or Spurm at 160. Happy Days.

10 years ago, Floyd was a better more complete fighter than he is now, taking proportionally bigger risks vs the likes of Castillo. Yet he was "Slave Waging" it back then. Now, fighting guys who I am not sure would have cracked the Winky-Shane-Forrest-Quartey-Trinidad-Reid-Vargas echelon, {in fact I am not sure Canelo would even beat Castillejo or Boudouani} he is commanding bigger purses and is one of two standout stars on the American scene. Boxing is not in rude good health because 10 years ago, Floyd would not have gotten away with this.

Castillo really wasn't perceived as such a big risk when Floyd fought him. He was, after all, a guy who was basically even with Stevie Johnston in the recent past and had been beaten by other guys previously.

He was a big risk in the rematch after getting jobbed out of a decision over Floyd in their first fight, however.

The Gatti fight meant fuck-all in Floyd's career.

Castillo had lost early in his career, but early in a career in Mexico means pre-natal. In the womb he got roughed up and exposed by slick placental fluid. During birth he was was exposed as having trouble with movement. His defense was shown to be lacking when the doctor smacked him on the ass and he could only cry about it. That's trouble early in a Mexicans career. Trouble late in his career is when it takes 10 carers to get him to take his sleeping pills in the nursing home.

There were people here saying Gatti was way too big and was going to KO little Floyd

People here also (mostly Brits) that thought Hatton would knock him out

Castillejo was nothing at world level. I have no doubt Canelo would have beaten him.

Laurent was pretty good though actually, and holds a win over the current cruiserweight kingpin

I would pick Monsieur Laurent to do the business on the fat legged little Ginger.

Laurent would trouble him quite a bit, I think

    He'd hammer Castillejo easy

you just mentioned 2 guys that were keeping boxing barely alive....Manny now is gone and its already boring....now when Floyd goes..who is left? seriously? if you asked the average person to name only 1 champion from any weight class....they probably would throw out Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, and George Foreman other then Manny or Floyd..IM NOT KIDDING

I know you're not kidding and i agree with you. Boxing has been declining, but at the same time i don't much care about the average person either. I don't see the next 'superstar' either but there are plenty of good fighters out there. I think people make too much out of what the average main stream sports fan cares about. I realize mainstream appeal always helps, but boxing has pretty much always been a niche. Even in boxing's best days there was a lot of bullshit, corruption and politics. Don't worry about if a boxer is getting coverage on espn or if the the guy on the street knows who he is. Enjoy the sport for what it is.

perhaps that is the problem.....i started watching boxing from 1988 onwards.....and i felt spoiled...now...its like the guys I see on TV just don't pass the eye test for me....its like comparing an applie pie in a grocery store to the one your mom used to bake for you as a little kid....i hear Max Kellermen and company pumping up these completely SHIT fighters and I just feel almost ashamed to be watching them...i just cant handle it anymore....and not to mention we missed out on perhaps one of the greatest super fights of our time? Prime Mayweather vs Prime Pacman.....that was a crying shame...the type of fight that draws people to the sport to watch and to participate....biggest fight probably since what Hoya vs Tito? And boxing could not deliver.....at least on MMA we see those "Superfights".......we don't see it anymore in boxing....a superfight for us is an old Sergio Martinez vs Chavez' damn son :(

Kellerman knows the score, he knew it when he worked for ESPN. Now he's a corporate shill. We are the marks.

Hopkins is another example of why I agree with you somewhat. Logic would dictate that a 47 year old winning titles is an indication of how poor things have become.

Instead, the spin is that Hopkins is really just the greatest talent of all time.

You Must've MISSED this Particular Point REED Made, Several WEEKS AGO...

Again, a Mere 6 Years Ago, NOBODY Saw Floyd Mayweather Morphing Into Boxing's BIGGEST Draw...NOBODY Foresaw an Asian, Former 122lb Champion Becoming a MAINSTREAM AMERICAN Star....6 Years Ago, "95% of the People on the Street" DIDN'T Know the Names "Floyd Mayweather" or "Manny Pacquiao"...But TODAY they Do.

Boxing HAS & Always WILL REPLENISH Itself...

Even Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlai Silva Occured WELL AFTER its Shelf Life...Don't Come to these Parts Talking that MMA vs. Boxing BULLSHIT, Bro....

HISTORICALLY, what Hopkins is Doing ISN'T New...

George Foreman was Mid 40's when he KO'ed Michael Moorer...Archie Moore was NEARLY 40 when he Beat Joey Maxim for the Light heavy Title & Gave Rocky Marciano All he Could Handle, Challenging for the Heavyweight Title...Jersey Joe Walcott was LATE 30's when he KO'ed the GREAT Ezzard Charles...

When you Factor in Modern Advancements in Sports Medicine, Equipment & Training Techniques (Not to Mention PED's), it Doesn't Surprise REED all that Much that a SKILLED, DISCIPLINED Fighter like Bernard Hopkins Can Successfully Ply his Trade @ Damn Near 50...
