I just reassessing that particular win. Some wins grow with time (Sanchez over Nelson), some go the other way.

Everyone is saying Canelo is so great so it can only look good when Floyd destroys him

If somehow Floyd loses it would be because Floyd didn't show up, or was sick

Keep sniffing son. Where will Canelo sit when Floyd is through with him? I bet he comes out of with a hole like a sewer pipe and a reputation barely scuffed.

I reckon, win lose are draw, Canelo will not come out of this fight with his reputation duly untarnished. I see him applying pressure, being outboxed, with the commentary team declaring this a GREAT FIGHT WHAT A NIGHT OF BOXING GUYS with Canelo basically being exposed by a smaller older man, and both men having their reputation enhanced hugely. Canelo would have to die in there to come out of the fight with less respect than when he went in.

Regarding Lacy, I didn't think he would do as badly as you guys said he did.

Not really. Alvarez isn't a 'bum' but he's not just not on Floyd's level and never will be. He may or may not have a good career post Floyd. Even if does do really well i highly doubt in the future we'll ever be saying "that version" of Canelo would have knocked out Floyd.

The problem is Floyd is just that good, and hasn't slipped as much as some people like to think.

Canelo is his second best choice of opponent after Pacquiao from 147 to 154, surely, and I guess it's not really Floyd's fault that he doesn't have much chance of winning.

Oh I see. Well I guess i can just give it a miss so. I just know I will wake up Sunday morning {a la Canelo} and read about what a great 12 round decision action rock em sock em 118-110, 119-109 119-109 fight I just missed, and how Canelo enhanced his reputation accordingly, as had Floyd, for fighting such a hungry spurt fiend.

With the greatest of respect, there is absolutely nothing appropriate about the assessment of Joe Calzaghe on this forum. The hatred for Calzaghe from you and several others completely negates the value of your assessment.

    Oh

It has to be the least balanced debate about any given fighter I have ever seen.

The pro Calzone's are slightly loopy romantics, the anti Calzones morph from normal, functioning humans to complete raving loo-la's at the mere mention of his name.

I'm not evaluating Calzaghe here. I'm saying the Lacy win has been reevaluated in retrospect because it's clear Lacy was a hype job. The Kessler & Hopkins wins hold up at least as well now as they did at the time.

I spend a slightly worrying amount of time watching Manson interviews actually. I find him fascinating.

You said it has been 'appropriately reassessed'. That's not true at all; by the anti-Joe lunatic fringe it has been completely disregarded. An appropriate reassessment would mean that the win is held in high esteem but not the same esteem as it might have been at the time because Lacy turned out to be not as good as first thought.

As for the Kessler fight, some seasoned observers (ahem) immediately afterwards claimed that Calzaghe had proven himself as a world class fighter. Do you agree that those opinions 'hold up' now?
