Well, no, unless Pacquiao has reacted really badly to being KTFO cold. If he's anywhere near as good as he was in the Marquez fight before getting blasted, he'll beat the crap out of Rios.
I think it's all coming down to how Manny Pac reacts to being put to sleep. Many fighters who have been ko'd in that manner are not the same. To answer your question, Manny should win but I can see Rios beating a OLD Manny Pac.
Since we don't what Pac will be like, putting some money on Rios if you find the right odds could be a good value bet.
Low risk, high reward if you don't have to drop that much on the line. I still however see Brandon Rios getting his brains beaten in. He is far too crude IMO for even the diminishing version of Pacquiao.
Rios is there to be hit. Pac will toy with him before the fight gets stopped on cuts or swollen eyes.
ABSOfuckingLUTELY... Brandon Rios ISN"T an Easy Fight for ANYBODY, Nevermind a Naturally SMALLER Man Coming Off a DEVASTATING 1 Punch KO Loss...If there's ANY Give in Pacquiao, Rios Can FIND it... The WINNER of this Fight has to Be Willing to Go Out on His Shield...Obviously, Brandon Rios is MORE than Willing to Do this...Is Pacquiao???... REED:mj:
I don't know, maybe I'm too hard on the crude style of Rios. But I can't see him NOT getting totally outclassed and straight-up looking amateurish against Pacquiao. I'm going down with the ship, I don't see Manny as a guy who has slipped as much as everyone else believes.
Don't get me wrong, i'm picking Manny all the way. I'm mainly agreeing with the point that Rios is exactly the kind of guy that will exploit a fighter if their heart is not in it. Rios comes to fight and sets a hard pace.
Agreed 100%. I said that when the fight was first talked about. Though I expect Manny to win, it does seem an odd choice for a comeback fight, for this very reason.
Maybe that's why it's actually a good choice. If he doesn't have it anymore Rios will surely prove it and thus the choice to retire will be made easier.
But how will we know that's that is what it was........it could just be that BRANDON RIOS HAS JUST STUNNED THE WORLD WHAT A FIGHT sort of thing instead of the more obvious, and frankly much more likely scenario that Manny just got old and ran into a stylistic issue with a younger fighter.
If Rios does pull off the upset, fairly or unfairly the win will be a little bit tainted because Manny is coming off a completely brutal KO loss. Most of it depends on how the fight plays out though. If Pacquiao gets run over without offering much resistance it would be hard to look at it as anything but a shot/shell shocked fighter who shouldn't have been in the ring. However if Pacquiao even looks 80% as sharp as he usually is Brandon should get huge credit. Look at the Oscar De La Hoya fight. Oscar was a massive favorite and a much bigger guy. It was huge win for Pacquiao as he took out the biggest star in the sport and 'shocked' a lot of people. If you go back and watch the fight, it was obvious Oscar was finished. Nobody realized he was that far gone. Pac just went out and did his job. It was a great fight for him financially and career wise, but if you look at the fight in pure boxing terms it wasn't that great an achievement.
Rios is strong and has a punchers chance... Pacquaio should be able to beat him with speed and better technical quality
Like Whiskey, REED is PICKING Pac, but REED Wouldn't Wager Much, if Anything on it... Rios' Chin is GRANITE & he's BALLS to the WALL for as Loooooong as he Needs to Be...EARLY, Pac will TEE OFF, but What if the Fight Gets to Round 4 or 5 & Pac HASN'T Seen the Desired Result from All the Flushly Landed Punches he Will have Thrown by Then???...What if Pac is Looking to Take a Half Round or So to Get a Second Wind, yet Finds Rios ISN'T Granting him ANY Breaks???... Rios Will ASK Questions of Manny, in Terms of DESIRE & DETERMINATION...Rios is HUNGRY & will Be JUICED UP for the Biggest Fight of his Life...For Manny, it's Really just Another Day @ the Office...w/the Fight Being in Asia, Manny will Likely have Considerably MORE Distractions than he Would for a Stateside Bout, as Well... Rios IS Crude as Hell & He'll Probably Be PUNCHDRUNK by his 30th Birthday, but the TIMING of this Fight Gives him Intangible Advantages he Otherwise Wouldn't Possess... REED:mj:
Rios' chin is SOLID brother REED, but not far from granite. Both Acosta, and Alvarado were able to hurt him. Neither of those guys has anywhere near the speed and power of even a faded Pac.
Floyd???:scratcher:... Because of his DEFENSE, Floyd's Hasn't had to SHOWCASE his Chin All that Often...By the Same Token, YOU CAN'T Place him on ANY "Best Chins" Lists, Because it's Relatively UNPROVEN...But Even w/that, Floyd was MORE HURT by Corley & Sugar Shane than REED's EVER Seen from Rios.... Has Rios Been Dropped???...If Not, why Froch, who was Dropped HARD by Jermain Taylor???... REED:mj:
Rios has yet to face a puncher. Floyd, and Froch have. Froch was dropped by Taylor, but it's not like JT was some feather fist. Taylor had power. He just had SHIT accuracy, and even SHITTIER finishing ability. I guess because Toney got dropped by Reggie Johnson, that Rios has a better chin than him as well, huh? Froch has a rock jaw, and has faced FAR more dangerous punchers than Rios has. Let's see Rios taste the power of a guy like Lucas, Provo, Maidana, or Hell, even Garcia. Alvarado is NOT, I repeat NOT a big puncher. Neither was Murray, or Antillion. Acosta is a DECENT puncher, and he hurt Rios. Speaking of Garcia, Danny arguably has a better chin than Rios as well. Danny took shots from Judah, and Holt that might have hurt Rios, and was never seriously hurt. I suspect Matthysse will put serious hurt on him, but no shame there, Lucas has freak power.
What PUNCHER has HIT Floyd FLUSH???...Getting in the Ring w/a Puncher DOESN'T Prove Punch Resistance...& AGAIN, Floyd was BADLY Hurt by Chop Chop Corley (& WOULD have Tasted the Canvas if Not for the Ropes) & Sugar Shane, NEITHER of Whom were "Punchers" @ the Weight Floyd Fought them... Rios' Chin is MORE Proven than Floyd's...Basically, Floyd Should Be ERASED from the List...As for Froch, Jermain Taylor Could HURT You, but he WASN'T a "Power Puncher" Either...He was a BIG Middleweight w/ABOVE Average Handspeed...REED Thinks Alvarado is @ Least AS HARD of a Puncher, Lb for Lb... REED'll Grant You Matttthhhyyyyssssseeee...But Froch is QUESTIONABLE @ Best & Floyd DOESN'T Even Belong in the Discussion... REED:mj: ps. Right Now, TODAY, REED is Inclined to Give Rios a SLIGHT Edge Over James Toney's Chin as Well, Based on Sheer EVIDENCE...
Even two fights ago, Floyd took serious shots from Cotto, and was never hurt. If you wanna go back a few years, Oscar hit Floyd with a few solid left hooks and Floyd was never hurt. Brilliant defense, yes. But if he was chin was anything less than excellent, we'd have seen him on the canvas by now. And Alvarado HARDLY has more pop than Taylor. Just because he's a brawler, and Taylor was a sloppy boxer, don't get it twisted. Taylor had more pop in his right hand than ANY punch of Alvarado's. Don't just ask Froch. Ask Pavlik as well. And you CANNOT be serious about the last line. You just CAN'T be! Toney has one of the best chins OF ALL TIME! Jones hit Toney with some shots that P4P would have KNOCKED RIOS COLD! And Toney took them. Are you REALLY putting Rios on that level? We have little evidence of Rios until he faces a legit banger. Even with Lucas, we have more evidence, because Judah is a bigger puncher than ANYONE Rios has faced. Granted, Matthyse's defense is a lot better than Rios' D.
Make Up your Mind, Bro.... On 1 Hand, You're Giving Floyd POINTS for a Relatively UNPROVEN Chin that's Actually Gotten Him into THE MOST Compromising Positions of his Career, vs. 2 AVERAGE Punchers @ Best (Corley & Mosley)....On the Other Hand, You're IGNORING Tangible Proof of Rios' Chin... Based on Floyd-Corley/Mosley ALONE, Rios' Chin SHITS on Floyd's...Rios Gets Caught ALL Fight, EVERY Fight, FLUSH...Yet he Walks Through just about Everything...Corley & Mosley BARELY Laid a Glove on Floyd, but When they Did, they BADLY Hurt Him (Again, Corley WOULD HAVE DROPPED Floyd, if the Ropes HADN'T Held him Up)... Rewatch Floyd-Corley & Tell REED w/a STRAIGHTfuckingFACE You HONESTLY Believe Floyd has a BETTER Chin than Brandon Rios???...If You can Fix your Lips to Utter those Words, You're LYING.... There's NO Evidence Alvarado DOESN'T Hit @ Least As Hard as Jermain Taylor... As we Type, Rios' Chin HASN'T Cost him a Fight OR a Round...James Toney's Chin HAS...If/When Rios Starts Getting KO'ed &/or Bounced Off the Canvas, REED'll Revisit the Matter... REED:mj:
Cotto is Pipino Cuevas compared to Alvarado. And that's a BULLSHIT exaggeration. Cotto is not an "average" puncher. Cotto's always had well above average power in his left hook. He's simply not a BIG puncher.
When Rios absorbs shots from a legit puncher we'll re-visit the issue. I wish Top Rank would have made Rios-Provo instead. Provo would be far and away the biggest hitter Rios has faced.
Yes. His power looked just fine against Foreman, and Mayorga. He even hurt Marg in the rematch. Even at 154, Cotto has above average pop. Problem for Cotto is, he's always lived in the shadow of Tito. No, he's never been a puncher of THAT level.
He's never been a big puncher ever, at any weight But At 154 especially, he is a very average puncher
