Correct me if I'm wrong, but Hilton was prime in the late 80's, after the same-day weigh-in era. Hilton and Canelo were similar size and build.
Yes, but before anyone started purposely drying out and then rehydrating, meaning Hilton probably weighed a pound or two more than he had at the weigh-in, unlike Alvarez who is a Light Heavyweight in the ring... I think he'd look shockingly larger All this is shit is Eddie Mustafa's fault... Lazy ass motherfucker
Does Canelo balloon up to 168, not 175? Either way, I think you guys will see there's a difference between weight and boxing weight in the Floyd fight. His fat little legs won't do a damn thing to stop him getting dominated.
Gerald McClellan was one of the first guys to do the drying out/rehydrating thing and he looked gigantic compared to his opponents
Really? I didn't know that, but yeah he did look bigger than his opponents. I wonder at what point it became as "mainstream" as it is now, with almost everyone doing it. Oscar must have boiled down like crazy to make 130, he looked huge at the weight. I remember thinking poor little Leija in that fight, looked like a featherweight vs a welterweight ::
Yeah, that shit was ridiculous! Leija was tiny by comparison I think it became common by the late 90s, that was when HBO started to feel compelled to do the "unofficial scale" thing
I REFUSE to believe that all those guys gained was 1-2 pounds. You have any idea how EASY it is to put on weight after weighing in like that? The eye test reviles that Hilton and Canelo were roughly the same size. They were about the same height as well.
They were drying out a bit even in the same-day weigh in era, it just wasn't anything like on this scale (no pun intended). But yeah, even if Hilton gained 5 lb or so, Alvarez is stepping into the ring at 170-175.
Some of Oscar's early fights, the size difference is almost comical http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMrh5OKLtb0 Dorsey's mullet must've weighed more than the rest of him did
Haha, yeah that's exactly what I recall. I remember thinking it was comical at the time, Oscar just teeing off on these hopeless midgets.
