Wasn't sure about Camacho's age, it was so long ago when they fought I figured he was in his late 20's. I knew Whitaker was old when he fought Tito though, but even still an old Whitaker still had skills (kinda). The Mamadou Thiam thing was obviously a joke. My point still stands though. Tito was a very good boxer during his welter campaign, a lot better than some on here are trying to make him out to be. Yeah, he got ran over by ODLH, Hopkins, and Wright, but all those guys were world class HOF fighters. Tito never lost to average guys like Breland. Tito would have whipped him, it wouldn't have been close and it would have been by early to mid round stoppage.
This is the dumbest bullshit I've ever read "young camacho"???? Get the fuck out of here with that shit Pernell Whitaker was a retired coke-addled drunk Oba Carr? You think Breland doesn't whup that sorry ass trio? And those are among the highlights! Campas (not Campus)??? What even sort-of good fighter failed to beat his sorry ass? Trinidad was the same guy, his style was exactly the same, his strengths and weaknesses were exactly the same
You are out of your fucking mind... Replay of Tito/Blocker??? Get the fuck out of here with that histrionic bullshit... Breland was A) better than Blocker in every way and B) obviously not coming into this mythical matchup past it and having just been iced by a junior middleweight inside of a round Breland was a better welterweight than any welterweight Trinidad actually beat... that's a fact (no, he didn't deserve the W against Hoya) ... He was a way better boxer than Trinidad... way better, miles better... the idea of Trinidad having an easy time getting rid of him is a huge steaming pile of bullshit
From watching some Breland fights, he was definitely a good boxer. Height and reach to go along with goo use of the jab, nice right hand, and good hand speed. The only thing about Breland that I don't see is footwork to marvel at. He doesn't seem all that mobile from where I'm sitting and I think having mobility is an absolute MUST against a pinpoint puncher like Trinidad who would find the target if you are in front of him... I'm not sure I can see Breland doing what Oscar did. Not for 8 or 9 rounds at least. Oscar was absolutely PROGRAMMED to fight the way he did against Trinidad but he also had the footwork to execute the game plan. Poor decision making on his part cost him the victory. In my humble opinion, Breland was not capable of duplicating De La Hoya's performance that night.
I disagree with this... I don't think you need to be super fast on your feet... just know when to move and where to move Anyway, as I said, the biggest reason he wouldn't duplicate Hoya or Hopkins or Wright is durability... He can't win because he can't keep the guy off of him for 12 rounds and he can't take too many of his punches... What I'm arguing with X is the idiotic notion that this would be some easy blowout for Trinidad. It wouldn't be. Breland was an excellent boxer with a great jab and a very hard right hand... For the first half of the fight, he'd be winning but he would get tired and Trinidad's connect percentage would increase leading to him knocking Breland out. That was my pick from moment one. X's "replay of Blocker" is fucking daft nonsense. That's what I'm arguing against, never mind lb for lb trying to make Hector fucking Camacho in 1994 at 147 pounds both "young" and a good win or the retired alcoholic coke addict Pernell Whitaker who could do little except stand in front of the guy
That's true. But Wright was the bigger man and he had a really tight guard and he was able to push Tito back all night.
