The Lone Ranger watched it last night and surprisingly turned out better than the critics reviews. This is a fun film. Not a great western and not very original and is aimed at a target audience of 11 year olds (even though it has some disturbing scenes not suitable for children). Johnny Depp's Tonto is a riot, funnier than Jack Sparrow. In fact this film was more entertaining than the last two Pirates movies IMO. Armie Hammer does a decent acting job as John Reid aka the Lone Ranger, but the film portrays him as a clumsy naïve and is not until the final scenes that he truly becomes a hero. And that is one of the problems of this film. Sure it runs like half an hour too long and goes overboard at the end, but like I said, this is basically a western closer to fantasy than, lets say 'Unforgiven' or 'Tombstone'. The recurring joke line of 'what's with the mask?' was a homage to the old tv series as well as the last scene with the Lone Ranger shouting his trademark line of 'Hi-yo, Silver! Away!' only to be interrupted by Tonto with a 'Don't do that ever again'. 7/10

Yeah, but Burton always picks where to set the camera up and never fails to dim the lights.

when was the last successful film Johnny Depp made? Wasn't it Pirates of the Caribbean from 2003?

Alice in Wonderland in 2010.
Like I pointed out, besides that film and the Pirates from the Caribbean movies, most of the other films Depp has made has not being that successful or just plain tanked. He has more flops in his resume than hits. Look at these titles and keep in mind that a 'flop' is a film that made less than its budget or did not recouped its budget:

Cry Baby -flop
Benny & Joon - flop
What's eating Gilbert Grape? - flop
Ed Wood -flop
Don juan deMarco - flop
Dead Man - flop
Nick of Time - flop
Donnie Brasco - flop
The Brave -flop
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas -flop
The Ninth Gate - flop
The Astronaut's Wife - flop
The Man of cried -flop
Before Night Falls - flop
Chocolat- flop
From Hell - flop
The Libertine -flop
Secret Window - flop
Finding Neverland - flop
Sweeny Todd - flop
Public Enemies - flop
The Rum Diary - flop
The tourist -flop
Dark Shadows - flop

minor hits:

Edward Scissorhands
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
Sleepy Hollow

According to wikipedia,

Donnie Brasco:

[TH]Budget[/TH]
$35,000,000

[TH]Box office[/TH]
$124,909,762[SUP][1][/SUP]

How is that a flop?

Even if you go by US alone, it grossed more than it's budget at the box office

As a matter of fact, if Pantypisss is using "failed to equal or exceed its budget" as the definition of his list, the following films DO NOT QUALIFY (International earnings COUNT)

Donnie Brasco
Benny & Joon
Don Juan DeMarco
The Ninth Gate
Chocolat (grossed 5 times its budget!!!)
From Hell
Secret Window
Finding Neverland (grossed more than 4 times its budget)
Sweeney Todd (grossed three times its budget)
Public Enemies (more than twice its budget)
The Tourist (nearly three times its budget)
Dark Shadows

"The Brave" wasn't even released in US theaters, so where is Pantypisss getting his info from?

So, going by actual gross instead of just 'Murican gross, out of the 24 films listed by Pantypisss as "flops", 12 emphatically were NOT flops and one wasn't even released in US movie theaters

What's more, this idiot lists three films as "minor hits"... Two of them grossed over 4 times their budget (if that isn't a full-fledged "hit", nothing is) and one of them barely did twice its budget (which is a poorer showing than several of the films he labels as FLOPS!!!)

Pantypisss is more interested in box office receipts than any guy on this site and look how blatantly off-base he was with that list

Panch isn't having a good day. In the world war z thread he claims the last resident evil film was better than WWZ. I haven't even seen WWZ yet but I know that is not only untrue but impossible.

So you are trusting Wikipedia's fan facts?:atu: Even Box Office mojo puts Donnie Brasco budget as 'N/A' which means the studio didn't release the film cost maybe to avoid embarrassment by its poor reception? And yes, I was only counting USA box office grosses. Depp has always been more successful in Europe than in USA...like Jan Claude Van Dame! And my man, if you count international grosses then you need to also count the MARKETING budget which sometimes equals or exceeds a film budget. Adding that it will kill your list. For example "Public Enemies' had a budget of $100 million, but grossed only $97 million in USA and $117 abroad. Looks like it recouped its budget, right? (a film has to gross twice its budget to break even since per each movie ticket sold it needs to be split between the movie studio that produced the film, the distributors and the movie theater owners showing the film) It also looks like made a small profit of $14 million too, right? BUT the company probably spend like $50 million in marketing the film in USA alone that includes tv spots, posters in strategic places like bus stops, train stations, billboards, newspapers, magazines, etc. When you add those numbers (IT COUNTS) you got a flop. Dark Shadows was a huge flop even with the international grosses added to it without even counting the marketing costs. I'll leave you to check by yourself boxofficemojo (more reliable than Wikipedia) to draw your own conclusions about the rest of your list of 'not real flops'. I do concede that 'Finding Neverland' and 'Chocolat' were hits. My mistake... as well as 'Sleepy Hollow"...it should be counted as a a flop, not a hit.

You don't need to defend me: the numbers speak by themselves. And cdogg may know a lot about music, but don't know shit about the movie business.

Im not picking sides in this debate, because i have only read the last 4 posts, but i will say this. Boxofficemojo may have N/A, but anyone that saw Donnie Brasco, knows that the budget on the movie is no where near close to 50 mil.
