Typically I give a little leeway to UFC cards on free TV, but this one is a pretty solid turd. I think Ellenberger-MacDonald in the co-main event is a great fight but not near enough to salvage the FOX broadcast. Lawler-Voelker could be a good slugfest but ultimately meaningless. And the idea of Liz Carmouche versus the absolutely unknown Jessica Andrade on the main card is pathetic. Hell, I follow women's MMA closely and I know little about Andrade.
as long as a title is on the line, I think it's, by default, a decent ufc card. I agree that Ellenberger/MacDonald is a good supporting fight, too.
johnson is horrendously boring. mma flyweights are simply not watchable imo. i've seen much better action in the 125lb division of ncaa wrestling.
Johnson is arguably the most boring major fighter in MMA right now. That division would've been saved if McCall had beaten him the first time, but it wasn't to be, and instead I'm forced to watch Johnson circle for half the round whiel throwing 7 potshots. Moraga is decent, hopefully he knocks Johnson out.
Watching flyweights is like watching mosquito's fuck. Ellenberger\McDonald is a very good fight. Win lose or draw, Lawler is always fun to watch, sucks that his 1st 2 opponents fell through. And I'm sure the girl fight will be more entertaining than the main event. Top to bottom, the 'name' value is kinda sucky for a Fox card, but it should be a fun night of fights. TFK
I highly doubt it. Women shouldn't even be in the UFC. That last woman fight was one of the worst things I've ever seen.
Damn, that was just a horrible card. And Ellenberger and MacDonald absolutely stunk the place up. It's clear to see the number 1 thing Rory has learned from GSP....How to be boring.
Demetrious Johnson Certainly WASN'T "Boring" Tonight... Dude STALKED his Opponent Primarily, when the Fight was Standing, Took him Down @ WILL, Completely OWNED him on the Ground (Punches Elbows, Knees, etc.) & Went for Submissions All Fight Looooooong...Johnson Put in ALOT of Ground Work & was VERY Busy while There... It's as if Johnson's HEARD the Criticism, Accepted it Constructively & Decided to DO Something about it... He Also Got Caught FLUSH w/a Shot that Would've KO'ed Most MMAists (Fighting Guys their Own Size), Got his Nose Busted Up as a Result, yet STILL had the Courage to Initiate a Takedown & WORK from the Ground, as Opposed to RUNNING Out the Clock in the Final Round, Knowing he was WELL AHEAD on the Scorecards, to Get the SUBMISSION... REED:kidcool:
STRANGE Performance from MacDonald, who's Typically a DYNAMIC Fighter... Ellenberger Could NEVER Get Past the Jab & LACKED the Fortitude to Go ALL OUT. to Prevent Being TAMED by a Single, Repeated Punch... TERRIBLE Fight, for Sure, but REED Places MOST of the Blame on Ellenberger... REED:mj:
It is pretty hard to KO a guy with a shot to the nose. DJ wasn't horrible but it isnt like he set the world on fire against a guy who didnt really deserve to be there. Johnson typically doesn't have the ability to land that sort of offensive wrestling + submission grappling against more capable fighters so he resorts to negative standup. As far as Rory-Ellenberger, I'd mostly attribute the blame for Ellenberger being awful.
So You've Never EVER Seen a Guy Get DRILLED in the Middle of his Grill & Get KO'ed???:scratcher:... In Johnson's Case, he WASN'T KO'ed, Staggered, Dropped or Even BADLY Hurt from the Punch (that he RAN INTO, REED Might Add)...REED Isn't Portraying Johnson as an MMA Godsend or Anything, just Saying he WASN'T "Boring" Last Night, No More, No Less... REED Expected More URGENCY from a 3 vs 4 Matchup, but NEITHER MacDonald Nor Ellenberger Displayed Much of Any...Still, REED Blames Ellenberger More... REED:hammert:
Junior Dos Santos knocked out Gilbert Yvel with a left hook to the nose area. It has to be a pretty powerful shot though, it's not common.
Only caught the first two fights. Both were fun for what they were. I hope they keep feeding Lawler mid level opponents. He's clearly not a well rounded enough fighter to be champ in the UFC, but it's a lot of fun to watch him in there against the mid level guys. TFK
Funny you Say that, Because Joe Rogan was HARD SELLING the "New & Improved Robbie Lawlor"..."THIS Robbie Lawlor Beats Any Man in the World, @ 170!" REED:hammert:
Anytime a fighter looks impressive, it's the best version of said fighter that we've ever seen according to Rogan. This is the exact same Lawler that was knocked out by a Nick Diaz jab, choked out by Jacare and thoroughly out-boxed by Lorenz freaking Larkin.
So Basically, Rogan's an EXCITABLE Commentator that Exaggerates from Time to Time...No Harm There...Seems like he just Wants to PROMOTE his Sport, ala Max Kellerman... REED Prefers that Approach to the JADED, DRUNKEN, Incessant NEGATIVITY of a Larry Merchant, Who Often Seemed as if he was DISCOURAGING Fans from Watching Boxing... REED:hammert:
