Stacked card. Title defenses by Chandler and Askren, plus King Mo, Patricio Pitbull, and an 'major announcement' from these two guys..... TFK
Great fucking card. You heard it here first, Askren is gonna have his hands full tonight. By the way, I think Bellator loses some credibility by having any connection to Jones-Rampage.
Chandlers the best Lightweight in the world IMO. it's a shame he's in Bellator for a long ass time now.
I agree about Chandler. Possibly the best LW in the world but he's stuck fighting Don Rickles. And I called the Askren fight perfectly.:scared2:
You can be sure of one thing....the night of the Bellator PPV, the UFC will be airing a card on free TV, and they'll probably make it a good one. They better figure out a way to get the Alvarez\Chandler rematch on that PPV, because right now, that's the only fight Bellator could put on that I would pay to see. TFK
looks like it's gonna be rampage vs. ortiz on ppv. i wonder who'd win between askren vs. maia or jake shields. askren's still a bit unproven imo, but i think he's a threat to just about anyone 170 given his takedown ability and top control.
I also thought Askren was going to have his hands full. It's like he intentionally tries to hit softly. Askren is very, very good, but he is also a loss waiting to happen. He has below average stand up and he just gets into too many dangerous positions to always Fedor his way out of them. But, he is a guy I knew about when he was in high school so I do root for him. Chandler's stand up is like Dodson's, but perhaps even better. His hands fly. One thing I really like about Askren is that he doesn't look like a juicer. Not even a little. Which makes him one of perhaps one world class mma fighter at light heavy or below you can say that about.
The truth is that anyone who puts Askren in their Top 10 at 170 needs to watch Askren-Hieron. Hieron was difficult for Askren to take down and he made Ben look silly in the striking battle. I had Hieron winning a close but clear decision. Regardless , the controversial loss earned Hieron a spot on the UFC roster again where he's quickly gone 0-2.
Tito Ortiz: It's the fight everyone wants to see. :laugh11: As a huge Bellator fan, I hate watching them start to do so many things wrong.
askren's also one of the best collegiate wrestlers ever. even then, he did a lot of things wrong and got away w/ scoring takedowns and reversals mostly based on his unusual flexibility. w/ that given style, bjj seemed like an easy transition for him and he utilizes his ground game very well. his standup might be inept, so it would be very interesting to see what happens if he faces a guy who can deny his takedowns and keep it standing. but the reality is that there's no one at bellator's 170lb. division who's good enough to do that.
i hope rampage knocks him out, but who knows? maybe rampage won't take the fight seriously and get taken down repeatedly en route to another decision loss. haha
Ben Askren is probably one of my favourite fighters in the sport right now. Good thing with him is this was the last fight on his deal, so a future in the UFC is possible. I wouldn't bank on it but it could happen. Not really on the Michael Chandler bandwagon with him fighting bums. He is a special talent but that is all right now. Hector Lombard did the same stuff in Bellator...it is not hard to look good against guys like Gono and Rickels...these guys arent even UC prelim fodder material.
Chandler choked out Eddie Alvarez who is, conservatively, 1 million times better than anyone on Askren's resume. Chandler is easily the better P4P MMA talent.
Well, Bellator did exactly wht you suggested and got Alvarez-Chandler II on this PPV. This sucks. Previously I wouldn't have even considered a Tito-Rampage PPV. Now I really don't want to miss it.
The good news is we get to see a rematch between the two best lightweights in the sport. The bad news is we won't get to see either of them in the UFC for a long, long time, if ever. TFK
