We're officially 3 weeks away from the biggest fight of the year, for us hardcore fans at least.

Any thoughts or changed opinions as of yet?

As I see it, there's only ONE question in this fight: Can Garcia hurt Lucas? If he can, we have a live fight on our hands. If he can't, Angel Garcia is gonna be one sad, and horrified father.

My thoughts haven't changed much. Originally I said Matthysse within 4-5. At this point I think Matthysse stops him in about 6-8.

I hope Danny has been working on defense, and boxing in this fight, cause he has to know it's only shot. There's nobody at 140 that's going to war with Matthysse and surviving.

Danny has pretty good skills, and is an underrated counter puncher, but essentially what he is an offensive fighter who's hittable. I don't think that's gonna cut it against Matthysse.

I have yet to see a version of Garcia that beats Matthysse. In other words, if Danny's gonna win, he's gonna have to take it to a level we have yet to see from him.

Angel Garcia is currently watching re-runs of the Falklands War and is happy that he ain't never seen no Argentinians than could fight.

Danny must fight a perfect fight which I don't think he is capable of doing. The only other option Danny has "IMO" is to counter Matthysse and hope to knock him out cold. Garcia is a very good counter puncher and may have a chance.

danny is good at timing his opponents so he will be able to hit mattysse. i don't see how how this isnt going to be a slugfest. both are offensive fighters with average defense. who ever inflicts the most damage the quickest will win.

Matthysses haircut is a bit despicable. Nonetheless he should be a solid fave

A very close fight. Matthysse gets overrated because of his punch, whereas Garcia gets underrated since he is an all-around fighter without any flashy skill. I root for Matthysse, but I can see Garcia outworking him

2 of those are non-Murican related affairs, how dare you put them forward as proof of a good year in boxing.

I still say Povetkin vs Wlad has all the makings of an "upset".

Danny Garcia is Best Described as "SUBTLE"...

The Question is, How Loooooooooooong Can he Afford to Be SUBTLE vs. an Unadulterated BANGER like Mattttthhhhyyyysssssse???....Garcia's Subtlety COST him the 1st 2 1/2 Rounds in his Fight w/Amir Khan, But a SINGLE Left Hook Made Up for it & Reversed Both of their Fortunes...

As Brother Nazim Said, "Danny Can Hurt ANY Man He Hits w/that Left Hook"...Mattthhhhhhhhyyysssse is NO Exception to that Rule...

As of Today, REED is Still w/OUT a Concrete Prediction...This Fight Could LITERALLY Go EITHER Way & End in ANY Round, ANY Fashion...Either Man Could END the Fight Early Doors, DOMINATE the Other Over a Lengthy Fight OR Score a Come from Behind Victory...Both Guys Could FEEL the Power of the Other & Decide to Play it SAFER than they Customarily Do...

There's Literally COUNTLESS Ways this Fight Could Play Out...

I know Mathysse has 90% chances of winning, but I will be rooting for underdog Garcia to pull an Amir Khan upset. If he took the fight is because either he has more cojones than it s healthy to or because he saw flaws in Lucas he knows he can take advantage of.

Povetkin will be shining shoes in Sosnovka after Wlad's dealt with him.

It probably won't be a great fight, but along with Mayweather vs Alvarez it is clearly the biggest, most publicity getting fight this year world over. Also, it is the biggest fight that is possible to be made in heavies, a case could be made that Garcia and Matthysse are not the best two of their division. This is a very good bout for sure, but biggest of the year is a great exaggeration

Rigondeaux vs Donaire was and will stay the biggest fight of the year, imo.

Kessler/Froch II, Wlad/Povetkin, Floyd/Alvarez are on the next tier

Garcia/Matthysse would be on the next lower tier with fights like Cleverly/Kovalev.

2013 will be a superb year if all of these happen.

I think Garcia probably wins if the fight goes to decision, but it will be close.
Matthysse may make Garcia look as ordinary as many continue to believe and blow him out, but Garcia has really impressed me lately.

Straight up, I get why Matthysse is the favorite. With the odds below, I think you have to pick Garcia and think you are getting good value.

Found this at betboxing.org: The odds released for Garcia v Matthysse can be found at Bet365 and they opened as Matthysse -275 and Garcia +200.

Garcia is going to have to land a BOMB (or two) early on to have a chance. If not I think Matthysse will do what he always does....walk his opponent down and knock him out.

Maybe Garcia surprises?...... I just don't see it here.

I think Garcia is game and shows some heart but..........Matthysse wins via TKO-7

I haven't even given this fight much thought in terms of making a prediction. I agree with your overall assessment of Garcia though. He can be underrated, overrated or in that goldilocks zone depending on every individual's perspective. Nobody will tell you he's a huge talent, but he seems to have all the tools of a proper fighter. He can hit, take a punch and box when needed. Even his hand speed can be pretty good.

It's hard to pick him against a guy like Mathyssee because of the amount he gets tagged. First reaction is the heavy blows take their toll and Garcia is taken out. However I can picture Danny landing a counter bomb and surprising Lucas.

Assuming Matthysse KOs Garcia in emphatic fashion (I think he will) & Floyd beats Canelo, what are the chances Matthhysse gets Floyd next?

Matthysse vs Maidana is also out there and that matchup works regardless of who wins the Matthysse/Garcia fight.
