Vargas beats the shit out of him and stops him late.

    Bigger, stronger, much better boxer.

Canelo is garbage. Vargas would fuck him up and stop him in 8

7 years later, is Vargas still the forum's consensus favorite?

    Canelo has peaked at 160-168.

He was never overwhelming at 154.

If a washed up Cotto could take 4-5 rounds off him at 154, then I still give 99 Vargas a chance here.

While Alvarez has clearly eclipsed Vargas this is a head to head matchup at 154. Look back and you'll see that Nando was the more complete article. He wins a decision.

    That's too simplistic to say.

Canelo never even HURT Cotto, nevermind stop him, and he hit with some big shots. And we all know, Cotto aint Monzon in the chin department.

Canelo has three quality wins at 154 - Lara (arguably not a win), Trout, and Cotto. All three of those fights went the distance.

Canelo's KOs at 154 came over 2nd rate fighters - Khan, Kirkland, and L.Smith.

    Vargas is being sold short.

He would be the second best guy Canelo faced at 154, second to Floyd of course.

At 155lbs I'm taking Alvarez. His resume there is the best I've seen. 154 vargas has a shot

    155 is essentially junior middleweight.

It looks to me that Canelo's best division is 168.

Vargas was sometime a bit too stiff in there. Hed give a good fight to clenelo, but i think he's eating some bombs eventually. And his chin wouldn't take them
