</header> [IMG]The UFC's pound-for-pound king of rematches will takes part in another career trilogy.

UFC officials today announced that former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will face for a third time former dual-division title holder B.J. Penn in a featherweight showdown.

The matchup, which was revealed on Wednesday's new edition of "UFC Tonight," is scheduled to take place after the two serve as coaches on "The Ultimate Fighter 19," which debuts in January. Edgar and Penn are expected to fight at an as-yet-undetermined event.

Edgar and Penn (16-9-2 MMA, 12-5-1 UFC) met twice in 2010, with "The Answer" victorious over "The Prodigy" in both contests. At UFC 112, Edgar claimed the UFC lightweight title. He then defended the belt four months later at UFC 118. Both results came via unanimous decision.

UFC President Dana White said he booked the fight after Penn informed him he had a burning to desire to avenge his two losses to Edgar.

"He says, 'I can beat Frankie Edgar,'" White said. "The two first fights were BS. I want that fight agin. I want to beat this guy so bad. It's all I want."

Edgar, of course, fought as a lightweight for the majority of his career. However, he made the drop to 145 pounds earlier this year for a failed bit to unseat champ Jose Aldo. In July, he bounced back with a win over Charles Oliveira.

Meanwhile, Penn is a former titleholder at both 170 and 155 pounds. However, the fight with Edgar would mark his first at featherweight, and if he could find a way to make a championship run, he could become the first fighter in UFC history to earn titles in three different weight classes.

Penn previously served as a coach on "The Ultimate Fighter 5," which aired in 2007. "The Ultimate Fighter 19" is expected to feature light heavyweight and middleweight UFC hopefuls. Filming begins in Las Vegas in mid-October.

Even with the laughable idea of BJ making 145, there is no point to this. Edgar deserves better than a TUF assignment and a 3rd fight against BJ.

Horrible, horrible fight. The first two were bore fests, and this will be too. Except I expect a 145 pound B.J to get tired the fuck out by round 3, and Frankie will finish him with some g and p.

yup. I actually think many of Edgar's losses were not losses. But hey, whatever. Maybe BJ's break was good for him.

Ridiculous. Even if Aldo is headed for a showdown with Pettis, there are still fights with Mendes, Lamas and Cub Swanson that could be made for Edgar.

I don't get this at all. The Edgar-Penn rivalry was about as heated as the rivalry between green beans and asparagus.

Poor Frankie. He gets all these bad decisions, and now he gets stuck fighting BJ Penn ? I bet you it's only because that whiny bitch BJ whined and moaned to Dana about getting this opportunity, and Dana reluctantly agreed, because BJ "did so much for the sport". UGH. Frankie should move back to 155, and get a big win and then would get a shot at Pettis. (He's not getting Aldo for a while)

Why would he refuse the extra money?

They should cancel this dumb ass idea and let Jones and Gustaffson coach.

With all the press about how good the fight was on Saturday night, the UFC would be crazy not to do an immediate rematch. It would do crazy PPV numbers.

They'll both be out of commission for awhile anyway so why not kill the time coaching on TUF?

BJ at 145? Of course, this makes me want to see him fight Aldo. :l2:

Co-sign on Trplsec's TUF notion for Jones and Gustaffson.

No I watched it live. But I also understand there are a ton of people that DIDN'T watch it live and have heard ravings about how good it was after the fact.

I think many fans probably didn't watch because they didn't give Gustaffson a chance. Now they've heard the buzz and a rematch would sell like crack.

I like this idea, plus they could make the TUF another US vs the rest of the world type show. It could be very interesting.
