This MM has been done a few times in the past, but one more time. These two had a lot in common. Both young little bulls who peaked around 20-21. Both devestating left hooks to both the head and body. Both trained by their pops. Both from troubled families. Both had problems with the bottle. Difference is, Ayala had more refined skills and overall a more advanced talent. But Hilton possibly was tougher. Would Ayala would have been too talented for Matthew, or would Hilton be too tough for Ayala? Either way, it would have been a HIGHLY violent fight. Oh, and for the record, I'd pick both to stop Crapnelo.
I'd go with Ayala in a few rounds of a wild punch out. I thought Hilton was going to knock Doug Dewitt out in the long ago in his middleweight title try, and Doug was one tough sonofagun. I had won earlier with Matthew over Benitez and Drayton, but Dougie had some set of whiskers in that fight. Ayala was too much of a punching force in there for Hilton inside, while Matthew had a tendency to wind up with his home run punches and swings. Ayala was a much more compact puncher and would have gotten under and inside most of Hilton's incoming and stopped him to the body and head with hooks.
I think for once you and I can agree. I think Tony would have stopped him in a brutal war for exactly that reason, being more compact and accurate.
