Spinks was entirely overmatched and the only reason he was still champ was he avoided any legitimate challengers after sneaking past Holmes in their rematch. The media built this up as a legit superfight, but it was obvious Spinks was gonna get KOed but good. Spinks was a great Lightheavy and a pretty good heavy who caught Holmes at exactly the right time. I was a big Spinks fan, but let's not make him out into something he wasn't. Credit to Tyson for doing what he needed to do and doing it in an impressive fashion. These guys could fight 100 times and Spinks gets KOed each time.
I gave Spinks no shot at all here, and instead was looking forward to the Buster Douglas - Mike Williams fight as I knew it was gonna be a good one.
The most oft-used anecdote when describing this fight at the time was "The National Anthem was longer than the fight!!!" ... That was said by probably 75% of sportswriters and newscasters the following day and was parroted by numerous dads and uncles and grandfathers and older brothers and then parroted by 10 year olds like me and my friends::

He was last seen trying to cheer fellow Eggplant Kirk "Captain Eggplant" Johnson onto victory against the greatest Egg White of them all, Vitali Klitschko. In fact, you could say Vitali was "Daddy of the Meringues".
