Pretty good potential card for memorable scraps on this card. It's in Australia so it is being aired live on Friday night in US.
It's no secret I've never thought much of Bigfoot Silva as a fighter, but damn, after tonight, he proved his heart is bigger than his freakish, Easter Island Statue head. And Hunt is just ridiculous. This was a war. And I can't wait for the rematch. TFK
There is something very likeable about Mark Hunt. That was an excellent fight and a fair result for me. Shogun looks to be in great shape - Is he training with Victor?
crazy fight, one of the best I've ever seen, the draw result was appropriate as it was back and forth constantly.
I had Bigfoot winning 1,2 and 4, but I'm fine with the draw. I can't ever recall a fight, MMA or boxing, where so many people were satisfied with a draw. TFK
Unreal scrap. Bigfoot made a fan out of me. Not only did he survive a brutal beating that would have destroyed the heart of most guys, but he also NEVER stopped trying to win. The Shogun fight made me realize that Glover Teixeira really hasn't done anything to deserve a title shot. Bader? Te Juna? Jackson? Where's a win over any legit top 10 LH like Evans, Gustaffson, Machida, Rua, Davis or Lil Nog?
Who would you rather see get the title shot? Jones has already beaten the other top contenders in dominant fashion. Except Gustafsson, of course. If Jones has to have another fight before the Gustafsson rematch, I don't see a better opponent. I missed the Shogun fight, but the main event was awesome. It made me more a fan of both guys. Mark Hunt reminds me of David Tua. He might gas early, but he has crazy power and determination through the whole fight.
Was the resolution on my laptop fucked up or did Rua look in great shape? He looked very crisp too on top of looking in great shape. Someone here mentioned that he is "training" with Vitor?
Yeah easy question. Phil Davis is more deserving and hasn't fought Jones yet. Davis has wins over Gustaffson, Lil Nog and Machida. It's really not even close.
I think UFC prefers to sell a fight between their champion against an albeit unproven but a potential monster in Glover instead of a guy with a boring style and controversial decision victories. I agree though, on paper Davis deserves it more (Although wasn't the Glover fight made before Davis got his win over Machida? In which case can't blame them because before that David didn't really deserve anything)
Im sorry i disagree. Since Davis' loss to Evans (who lost his two fights after he beat Davis) Who has Davis beat convincingly that matters? Glover has earned his way to this title fight.
Just saw the fight. Rounds 1&2 were boring. Round 3 was good. Round 4 was great. Round 5 was a classic. If this fight were a 3 rounder it wouldn't be anything special. The reason it was great was because they both got too tired to move around. If they rematch them, it better be a 5 rounder.
Ummm, he choked out Gustaffson. Considering Gustaffson is clearly the 2nd best LH on the planet, I'd call that pretty big. But he also beat Lil Nog and Machida via clear, unanimous decisions. Again, those wins absolutely shit on anything Teixeira has done. Hell, Teixeira was in a close fight with Rampage.
I have to be clear, I'm not impressed with Phil Davis. I just give more credit to a guy that has fought better competition.
Agree with Trpl. Even having a debatable win over Machida is a fuck load better than anything Glover has done.
His win over gus and Lil nog, mean nothing when it comes to rankings, when you lose to rashad right after. That drops you in the ranking. And dont even try and act like the Gus that fought Davis is the same gus that fought Jones. And his win vs. Machida was not clear. MANY people thought Machida won that fight.
Why? Prior to his questionable win over Machida, Machida won a bullshit fight over Henderson and Beat Ryan Bader. Prior to that he lost to Jon Jones.
Anthony completely misses the point. No matter how you spin it, Davis beat guys ranked in the top 10 at 205. Glover has not.
I'm pretty sure Jones asked for some time off from getting punched in the face by Gus. He must be secretely hoping Gus loses his next fight and the rematch never comes around.
But he also got easily outclassed by Rashad. Glover hasn't. Technically Davis proably deserves the title shot more, but from a business stand point Glover makes much more sense. UFC is about making money, not about technicalities like that.
Glover "hasn't" because he hasn't faced anyone near Rashad's level. And I 100% agree about your business point. That is absolutely true.
