I am not sold on Thurman's chin. He has the tools to beat Maidana, but I suspect that once the Argentinian lands a bomb on his jaw, Thurman will channel Gloria Gaynor just to survive til the final bell.
Compared to what? Past generations? No, he's not in the same class as Oscar, Tito, Ike, Mosley, ect. But who is this current crop is really THAT much better than him? Besides the obvious, Floyd. The fact that he's the most explosive puncher between welter/junior middle makes him a threat.
How on Earth is this a "fact"? Mark my words... this motherfucker will get knocked out within his next 5 fights He just stopped a fringe contender with a million miles on the odometer and was touched up a lot early in the process... Guy was made to order for him
Not many big punchers between the two divisions. You got Kirkland, who's a heavy, volume puncher, and Canelo, who's got sharp, good power, but not explosive power. Thurman isn't exceptionally talented, but one thing he definitely DOES have is a left hook that can end a fight at any point.
I just don't see who he's fought to be rated so highly as a banger Soto-Karass is the best guy he's ever fought He hits hard but I'd like to see how that power fares against someone good
Yup, Karass is the best guy he's fought, and short of being caught cold in the first minute and stunned, he dominated Karass every round, then VIOLENTLY KO'd him. No one's EVER taken Karass out like that. Rosado beat him up and forced a stoppage, and Maidana stopped him a tad bit early. Thurman stretched him in style. Give the guy a tad more credit.
Yeah but those guys did that how many wars ago? Soto-Karass is a guy who gets touched up in every single fight and he's been doing that a long time... Thurman performed well, but I'm not sure how much this fight tells us about him
Well for one, when he got hurt in the first round, he didn't panic at all. Kept very calm, and cool, and recouped very well. That tells us he at least keeps a cool head when he's buzzed, which is a good sign. He also knows how to vary his attack. That is to say he doesn't throw EVERY punch with fight ending intentions, but knows WHEN to throw a fight ending shot. And unlike a retard like Khan, he actually throws with a purpose in the mind. The way he set up Karass for that left uppercut in the 5th was pretty.
True, they just usually go hand in hand. As I said I think Hagler had a big frame for a middleweight, despite being only 5'9, and I think that was helped by his huge reach. Gives the impression of someone bigger. Gives the practical benefit of someone bigger too of course, in boxing ;)
Of course, but I think it's fair to say he did look like a pretty good, talented fighter on Saturday against a decent gatekeeper type. Much better than Broner I think in my mind.
I haven't seen saturdays fight (anyone got a link?) but from the other times Ive seen him I agree with Subcomandante Clogg. He's gonna be an exciting fighter but he's got two left feet and they're barely on speaking terms with each other.
REED's Actually NEVER Been More Impressed w/Thurman's FOOTWORK, than he was Last Saturday...Give it a Look @ Let Us Know What You Think...
Maybe Im talking pish then, its a while since i watched him. I cant get the link Neil gave me the other week to show saturdays fight so if anyone else has got a link plz do hook me up
Mobility Definitely ISN'T Thurman's STRONG Suit, Nor is it Something he Normally CONCERNS Himself w/...But UNLIKE Broner, Thurman OFFSET the Majority of Soto-Karass' Rushes w/Angles, Change of Direction, etc...REED Certainly ISN'T Saying Thurman has Great or even GOOD Footwork, but it Looked Better than we've EVER Seen, Saturday Night...
Agreed, definitely looked better. He looked more agile and nimble. Probably partly due to Soto Karass being as slow and lumbering as he is though.
You really don't know what the word "frame" means when referring to body size. Has absolutely nothing to do with arm length. Frame is your bone density and the amount of muscle/fat you can conceivably carry. It has a bit to do with genetics but also growth expectancy. For example, I myself am slightly above average height despite both of my parents being slightly below average for their respective gender but at a cost of having a midget frame. If I was a pro fighter I could conceivably make Junior Bantamweight. My body won't carry weight and especially at peak fitness would become impossible to reach a higher plateau. Of course steroids helps with this.
SLOW ya Roll, Homegirl... Your Expertise in CRANIAL Density is Unmatched, but this Drivel You're Spewing about Muscle/Fat & NON Cranial Density is a Bit OUT of Line...Show Us Your CREDENTIALS, Gladys.... REED:num:
Maidana has a chance in pretty much any fights he is in. He has the power and heart to hang in there all the way, I was sure Khan was going to take him out fast after he dropped him, but IMO Chino actially came back and won the fight. He can have trouble with a good boxer, Alexander simply didn't let him get too close. Definitely a good matchup vs Thurman.
:: Frame is essentially width x height, which of course is a major factor in how much weight you can carry. At least that's how I've always seen it. For example Tua, as big and heavy as his bones may be, has a tiny frame for a heavyweight despite weighing the same as someone like wald pussy. Nobody in their right mind would describe the likes of Canelo and Tua as having big frames, despite their presumably high "bone density" and ability to carry lots of fat :atu:
I would certainly describe Tua as having a huge frame. :dunno: How else do you describe a guy who would have to start lopping limbs off the get to an average male weight? He could get Pacquiao lean and he'd probably struggle to make cruiserweight, the guy's enormous.
