Mid 80's Curry vs mid 90's Tito at welter. Who wins? And please, don't give a "Curry wins. Tito couldn't fight a lick." response. For the record, I would favor Curry, but it'd be stupid not to give Tito a legit puncher's chance.
Curry would bamboozle that fool Trinidad has a 5% puncher's chance... other than that he's getting schooled and tagged up
I call bullshit on that, and you KNOW I'm one of the biggest Curry fans here. Curry was very solid defensively, but he did take some shots. Plus, Curry wasn't a moving on the balls of his toes, running pussy like Oscar either. He basically was an in the pocket type of guy who used his reflexes, and great blocking/parrying ability to make guys miss. Which is beneficial against a lot of guys, but a dangerous way to fight against Tito. Tito isn't Colin Jones, or Elio Ortiz. He wasn't the mindless zombie history remembers him as either. I'd say his chances are much better than 5%. I'd give Ike, Oscar, and Mosley much LESS of a chance at beating Curry than Tito, because they didn't possess Tito's fight ending power, or aggressiveness.
I think Curry would be winning early but I could see Trinidad's pressure getting to him by the late rounds. Tito was a strong closer. I think it depends on how Curry takes the punch, honestly. I would make Curry the favorite because he's better skilled, faster, and smarter. But I wouldn't bet any money on him winning.
I'll go no higher than 10%... Curry's power and precision would keep him honest and his defense would minimize what he would take...
Tito would have a better chance vs Curry than against anyone else as good as Curry. If that drunken sentence made sense. Curry's whole game was reflex' and milliseconds - he's allot more skilled than Tito so my pick is Curry KO 7 but if I was betting my money would just all be on it not going the distance.
Aye, but (/because) it's an all or nothing style, he's right down the middle on the front foot and relying on head movement. One wrong (wrang!) move against a big puncher and you're in a different fight and Curry needed to make all the right moves. Tito's big problem was he had to set his feet before he could punch properly.....same deal as David Tua but to a lesser degree. Once Tito was set he actually wasn't particularly slow at all and he threw in combination while Curry tended to stand in front of guys. My pick is Curry to win the fire fight but not with huge confidence.
I think you are underrating Curry's movement... He was economical but he moved laterally very well and as much as needed... I think he'd definitely spot Trinidad's clumsy footwork and turn him all night
