The new Cameron Diaz chick flick The Other Woman survived a storm of bad reviews and lured its core target, women over age 25, to dethrone three weeks champ Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film took $24.7 million to claim the top spot. Its audience was 75% female which again proves that women goes to the movies for 'girls night out'. I guess the remaining 25% were the boyfriends/husbands who were dragged to watch this as 'a date'. Count a few gay couples in the mix too (you see? I am being politically correct, faggots!). While this is a great opening for the $40 million budget film, the bad news is that it is unlikely that it will hold that well next week when The Amazing Spiderman 2 opens everywhere. Captain America: The Winter Soldier fell to the second spot with $16 million or 37% decline which is still very good for the Marvel film which right now ranks as the fifth highest grossing Marvel Studio film, just behind The Avengers and the three Iron Man films. Heaven is For Real came in third place with a solid $13.8 million. The faith-based film has grossed $51.9 million in two weeks and will easily surpass the lifetime gross of Son Of God ($59 million) by next week. Expect more small Christian films like this one from Sony/TriStar. Rio 2 descended to the fourth place with #13.6 million for a three weeks total of $96 million. Debuting in the fifth place with $9.6 million is Paul Walker's last complete film Brick Mansions which is a remake of the 2006 French action film District B13. This is a weak opening for the $28 million film, but it could have been worse. Continuing is box office sky fall is Trascendence which took a 62.7% dive in its second week. The $100 million budget film has grossed so far only $18.4 million making it one of the biggest bombs of the year, but I am sure that we will see a couple of bigger bombs by the end of the summer and no one will remember this Johnny Depp fiasco...his second in a row (The Lone Ranger). Debuting in the 7th spot is the horror film The Quiet Ones with a disastrous $4.1 million which is one of the lowest debuts ever for a horror film in recent years. Bears not only hold its ground moneywise, but actually moved two notches to land in the 8th spot with $3,6 million barely beating Divergent(also $3.6 million) by a hair. And falling from #5 last week to #10 this week is A Haunted House 2 with $3.2 million. But some interesting numbers are outside the top 10 list:
Draft Day #6 last week, Noah #9 last week and Oculus #8 last week took a monumental plunge down to spots #12, #14 & #15 respectively. All of them plus the debut of three new releases failed to push God's Not Dead from the #11 spot...proving again that its 38.1% drop speaks volumes of the staying power of this little film.

The final numbers will be released on Monday evening.

The actual final numbers radically changed the last few spots in the list. Divergent actually bested Bears, God's Not Dead moved back to the #9 spot and The Quiet Ones bombed even worst than reported debuting in the #11 spot.
