Martinez wanted no part of GGG. He even had his excuses ready not to fight him if he beat Cotto. Using his own logic on what Chavez Jr was doing Martinez should have fought Golovkin.

Even last night HBO didn't even push a fight with GGG with the winner. Which is suspect considering it's one if the biggest fights HBO could make.

i was selling him as a used up guy who's body is broke down. who would get stopped by cotto. i call it like i see it. you can pretend the guy was healthy coming into the fight if you want, but it was obvious to anyone with eyes the guy had ZERO chance to win after watching him limp around a minute into the fight

To his Credit, GGG TRIED to Fight Chavez Jr., but Having Said that he's Still on the OUTSIDE Looking In...REED Has No Qualms @ All about Cotto Passing on a GGG Fight...

Miguel Cotto IS NOT a Middleweight...Dude was SHORT for '47 & SMALL @ '54...Hell, Martinez is a NATURAL '54 Pounder, yet he DWARFED Cotto...Cotto's on the Back 9 of his Career & Doesn't Need to Face a YOUNG, STRONG Puncher, who Has a Realistic Future @ '68...

Look, REED Ain't Suggesting Cotto Beat a PRIME Martinez, but Still, he Deserves CREDIT for Moving UP in Weight & the MANNER of Victory...PRIOR to Limping Around the Ring, Cotto was BOUNCING Martinez's Ass Off the Canvas...

he'll get a mega payday next fight so im sure he'll live without receiving credit from me. i just think there are a bunch of middleweights who wouldve smashed that version of martinez. jr middles as well. at least a dozen guys. he started limping around after the first knockdown.

i cant really give cotto credit for beating an injured fighter. martinez was about 25% of what he used to be at his peak. he couldnt even plant to throw hard shots

But by Your OWN Admission, he Didn't Start Limping Until AFTER the 1st Knockdown...The Point Is, Somebody CAUSED the 1st Knockdown to Happen...

    Everything's 1 EXTREME or the Other, w/You:doh:...

NOBODY's Saying this was the Martinez that SCHOOLED Pavlik or KO'ed Tall Paul, but @ the Same Time, Considering Cotto is Past HIS Best as Well AND Moved Up in Weight, he Deserves a MEASURE of Credit for the WAY he Whipped Martinez's Ass...Martinez was Beaten Up, Schooled & STOPPED...Who Else has Done him like That???...

Yuri Foreman had a bad Knee during the Cotto fight....Martinez was fine, he came in looking to hurt the much smaller fragile opponent but walk into a left hook and NEVER recovered...It was probably 7-8 times that Cotto caught Martinez with left hook or a right hands and had him visibly hurt....it was like Cotto had plaster in his gloves....

If nobody ever fights GGG because he hasn't beaten anyone, how is he ever supposed to? I think he clearly wants bigger fights but can't get them.

Well no shit captain obvious, it's what all b side guys do to fight a side fighters. It's just a side fighters won't even speak about fighting GGG.

Chavez Jr did but had his contract problems to get him out of it.

Besides GGG there is nobody legitimate at 160 for Cotto to fight unless 147/154lbers move up, or Chavez Jr moves down.

Exactly this. Everybody at some point has beaten nobody until they fought and beat somebody.

None of these guys want to fight GGG because they know they will get sparked

GGG would absolutely stop Cotto... So Cotto's not going to fight the guy unless he gets paid an incredible amount of money (and no one is going to pay him that because GGG isn't a big enough name... simultaneously, he's not a big enough name because he can't get any fights)

Cotto has traditionally done better against boxers than pressure fighters. We all know that. Which is why it baffles the mind that he lost to mediocre Trout.

In any case, GGG would brutally assault him.

I can't help but think that was just a bad night for Cotto, or a freakishly bad style matchup for some reason. I mean, he did better against Floyd than Trout ffs.

But yeah Gaybox against Cotto is certainly not a fight I'd like to see, being a Cotto fan.

VAL Posed a Question & REED Answered it, Asshole...

Instead of Crying a Fucking RIVER for GGG, Tell him to Do WHATEVER it Takes To Join in the Reindeer Games w/the MONEY MAKING Sect of Fighters...A Year or So Ago, when Chavez, Jr. & Martinez were Mentioned as Opponents, GGG's People were Hinting about "Purse Parity" & his "Drawing Power", Which is a Fucking JOKE @ This Point...

If he Takes SHORT Money to Face an A-Side Guy, He WILL Get Fights...Take SHORT Money for an Andre Ward Bout & SOG Signs that Contract TOMORROW...

SPARE REED the Poor, Pitiful GGG Talk, Dude...

& Before ANYBODY Chimes in Saying, "But Ward's a '68 Pounder", Cotto was a SHORT Welter & VERY Undersized @ '54 (Which was the BIGGEST Factor in him LOSING to Trout)...

If GGG ISN'T Interested in Facing Andre Ward, NOBODY Should Pressure Cotto into Facing GGG...

I wouldn't advise Cotto to fight GGG at all.

Cotto should fight Canelo, then retire.

And Martinez wanted no parts of GGG. That's no secret. He gave us all this "GGG isn't ready for me...." blah, blah, bullshit. He simply wasn't interested in fighting GGG. He saw Cotto as more beatable, and more money.

I very rarely subscribe to the notion of "Such and such can't get big fights because nobody wants to them". I think in most cases it's bullshit. However, in the case of GGG, I think there's a lot of truth to it. When even the most BALLSY guy in the sport (Froch) says "Swerve him", it's safe to say you're an avoided fighter.

Martinez had NO INTEREST WHATSOEVER in fighting GGG.

Cotto just WHIPPED the Lineal Middleweight Champion...What EXACTLY Does that Have to Do w/GGG???...

Again, NOBODY OWES GGG Shit, Fellas...

REED Would Be SHOCKED if Cotto had ANY Plans of Keeping his Newly Won Title, BEYOND a RE w/Floyd or a Canelo Fight...Again, in NO Way Should he Be Pressured Into Fighting GGG, Especially if Nobody Wants to Pressure GGG Into Facing Andre Ward...

    Can't Have it Both Ways...

REED, you can't compare the 2 though. If Gaybox was the 168 pound champion, then it would be comparable.

he's the consensus best fighter in the division? :dunno: If Cotto is gonna hang around claiming to be 'middleweight champ' then DAMN straight he should be 'pressured' to fight the consensus best middleweight. It's his duty to fight him. Or give up the claim/title.

It ain't having anything two ways, Mr.The REED, only the same way i've had it the whole way through- guys who claim to be champ in their division have the duty to take on all comers in their division.
