Carnera couldn't fight. For decades it was understood that his ascension to the heavyweight title was carefully orchestrated by underworld forces. Tommy Loughran was a great fighter but he was a light heavyweight giving up 90 pounds and about 7 inches and the best Carnera could manage was a draw aided by repeatedly stepping on Loughran's feet by accident. Carnera's victories raised eyebrows from the earliest days of his career. Jack Sharkey refused to admit it, but it seemed plainly obvious that he took a dive in their title fight. Carnera's first on-the-level big fight was against Max Baer. 11 knockdowns. Baer did whatever he wanted. For some reason, and the disgraceful IBHOF deserves considerable blame for this, I have heard people claim that Carnera was "actually not that bad" in recent years... They are wrong. He was that bad. He was not a real fighter. The one thing I'll give him is that he had a lot of heart. He took one of the worst asskickings in history against Baer and kept picking himself up off the floor. He didn't lay down easy the way so many of his opponents had been paid to do. Anyway, No Spine McCline may have been a chickenshit basketball player with gloves on and nothing to his game but "Affletisizm" but he could move his hands quickly enough and throw some jabs... He wins this easily... He doesn't even have to try or be brave
Primo couldn't fight worth a damn, but who else has a giant gorilla on his resume??? :: http://youtu.be/FiNJTi7nJ1g
I haven't seen much of Carnera, but I tought he didn't look that bad in the Loughran fight, seem like he could fight a bit, at least against weak small guys. ::
That fight is hilarious looking Loughran was a great boxer, but he was an average sized Light Heavy ... He looked like a bantam next to that big fuck
