I think everybody on the forum would agree that the Pac of the Cotto fight would beat Chavez at 147. At 140, it's damn near a pick em. At 135, I pick Chavez with very little hesitation.
yea, i'd pick chavez at 135 and below, but at 140 it's a tough match up for him. he wasn't as quick at 140 and seemed a bit more vulnerable and pac would've landed a lot for sure. having said that, not sure how pac would've withstood chavez's relentless pressure either.
Don't you guys know? Chavez is just a Hatton-level fighter now... Routine pressure fighter who only walked through the punches of one the hardest hitting lightweights to ever breathe like they were nothing, won every round and left him looking like a gargoyle... big deal... he's like Juan Diaz with a little more power
Bullshit. I'm no Chavez fan. If this were a Duran thread, you could say something, because I am a Duran fan. But I never gave a shit about Chavez. Just stating my opinion.
He simply doesn't have the style to beat Pacquiao at any weight. Pacquiao has trouble with counterpunchers and classic boxers. He feasts on Chavez's style.
guy was one of the 2 or 3 best fighters on Earth for a good 6 years I love how you call the guy a plodder when Hector Camacho couldn't get away from him despite running as fast he could... That fight is a masterpiece... He won every round, gave him no space and beat the shit out of him... It still meant something when he did it... It didn't mean anything when Trinidad and Hoya did it and yet he did it more comprehensively than either of those two guys long before either of them despite those guys being younger and much bigger Jose Luis Ramirez was an excellent fighter but HE was a plodder... Couldn't handle really fast guys... Chavez was anything but a plodder and proved it throughout his career, most of which you either didn't pay attention to or don't remember
Pacquiao hasn't fought anyone with "Chavez's Style" nor "Chavez's Style" combined with his talent, intelligence, toughness, greatness etc. etc. etc. Pacquaio has trouble with anybody that can get right hands home on him... Chavez was one of the best fighters I've ever seen at scoring with his right against Southpaws... The only guy he had trouble doing that against was Whitaker... Whitaker, of course, is one of the greatest defensive fighters that ever lived, so that doesn't tell us a whole lot... Pacquaio is no Sweet Pea
Whitaker won 9 rounds and is one of the greatest pure boxers in the history of the sport... what that has to do with guys like Pacquaio or Marquez is beyond me... Furthermore, Chavez was in his prime as a 130-135 pounder, not a welter/junior welter hybrid (neither was Sweet Pea, to be fair) Taylor? He wasn't winning with his feet, that's for sure... He was winning because he was throwing a lot more punches and doing so at warp speed... part of what surprised people is that he attempted to fight Chavez that away instead of moving away and even then, even while winning the rounds, he was taking a tremendous amount of punishment, eyes swollen to slits, face a puffy mess, swallowing half a pint of his own blood... How the Taylor fight shows some sort of "plodding" tendency is a fucking mystery, to me unless "plodding" means gunning it out at close range with a guy right in front of you
how far do you think Ricky Hatton's mythical footwork gets him against Whitaker? He gets the shit kicked out of him and gets fucking embarrassed Azabeche Martinez, Roger Mayweather X 2, Lockridge, Castillo, LaPorte (the best fight LaPorte ever fought, btw), Ramirez, Rosario, Taylor, Camacho, Haugen, Alli, Lopez and a bunch of other very solid dudes that I just can't be arsed to remember right now... Nothing but padding there, guy totally blew
waiting for one of you cocksuckers to tell the oft-repeated message board lie that Chavez/Lockridge was a close fight (the one that proves the person telling it has never watched the fight) also, the old "LaPorte won!" chestnut (same)
even Double L wouldn't refer to Julio Cesar Chavez as a "plodder" and then dismiss a clear answer showing how stupid that description is with "cool story bro"
I still call JCC a plodder. That man's feet needed to be set to hit. Chavez had some bounce when he wasnt punching, but to punch, his feet needed to be set and squared up for anything with power behind it. That is a dream for a person with Pac's footspeed, which is one of the best in boxing history.
I did debate them when i mentioned you comparing Camacho to Pac. again, chill the fuck out. There is banter, but dont say shit that will change things around here.
Comparing Camacho (who displayed no offensive game plan just running) to Pac who moves and is actually offensive is ridiculous. There are times Camacho moved against JCC, but he didnt do anything. He didnt throw any punches and just waited for the counter. A counter, which he seemed to hardly throw. Pac would that shit. Pac would punch him while he moved and then attack him and then move again, while attacking him. I could see Pac getting tired in the 11th or 12th round and getting hit more. But Pac would still beat him wide on points.
which I didn't do I'll say whatever I feel like saying. Ban my account if you don't like it. "Cool story, bro" is just a curse-free way of calling somebody a fucking idiot, anyway
ban your account? Oh brother. If that's what you think im talking about, ok. And sorry, saying cool story bro is not like calling someone a fucking idiot. If that what you need to tell yourself, fine. But i wouldn't say that shit to you for your opinion.
Then why bring him up when discussing pac? It's not the same style or even the same type of movement. Not even close.
Anthony: Chavez was a plodder Me: He effortlessly chased down Camacho, a guy who was running away from him Anthony: Comparing Camacho to pacquiao is retarded Seriously... how can you not see this?
