Freitas was a very explosive puncher at 130 and we saw Mikey dropped by that caveman Martinez. Mikey is alot more technically sound than Freitas, and Mikey can punch. Garcia isn't a FREAKISH puncher like Corrales was though. Who wins?
I don't think Frietas hit that hard at all... he was just a 140 pound guy knocking out 130 pound Brazilian nobodies... Once he moved on to World Class fighters, he never displayed any semblance of formidable power... Diego Corrales had the chin of a debutante and Frietas never so much as moved him with his punches... Aside from a bullshit knockdown, Casamayor clearly didn't think much of his power either... I don't rate Frietas as a puncher at all, not even a little bit
Corrales seemed to have a better chin at 135 than he did at 130. Remember, he took 9 rounds of BRUTAL punishment from Castillo before finally getting dropped in the 10th.
Ask Caesar Bazan was Castillo an accumulation guy. Castillo wasn't a MURDEROUS puncher, but his left hook definitely packed a good amount of heat.
There's a difference between "hit hard" and being a "explosive puncher" Lots of guys hit hard, have some pop... Few guys are big punchers At lightweight? Edwin Rosario, Corrales, Arguello, Andy Ganigan... those guys are big punchers Castillo? more like a Chavez or Sean O'Grady or somebody... good power, hard enough to hurt an opponent, but not a KO artist
Oh God, we've hopped to an extreme here. The man who thinks Castillo would have beaten Aaron Pryor has arrived.
Freitas was scared shitless of Corrales (rightfully so) & never sat down on his shots for that entire fight.. the amount of energy he expended moving for the first few rounds was ridiculous. Then after Corrales finally found him he went into full on bitch-mode. But in his earlier fights, he could definitely crack.. Casa & Freitas both fought as though they were a little bit worried about each other's power
Casa was a negative fighter by nature, though, regardless of opponent I refuse to concede this point... One fighter's testimony aside (which should always be taken with a grain of salt, as it is), I don't see any visual or black & white evidence that Frietas was any more than a merely good puncher... also, he was a cowardly queer with a sexual deviant for a mother
Castillo's most powerful punch was his left uppercut. That's the punch he nearly took Ceasar Bazan's head off with. But overall, in terms of one shot power, he sure as Hell was not Rosario, Arguello, or Corrales.
