Scott Coker has officially turned Bellator into Strikeforce 2.0 They just signed Daley and Manhoef. Kimbo and Shamrock can't be far behind.
I don't know what their numbers were, but I liked what Bellator had become. As far as I am concerned, Rampage was a step in the wrong direction. I suppose I don't mind the introduction of these name guys, but they should (usually) have to play by the Bellator rules in order to get their shots. I know there are, perhaps should be, exceptions, but certainly not with guys like Daley and Manhoef. Are they tournament guys or are they cutting in line?
How so? The dude was 0-3 in Strikeforce and lost last year in a shit promotion. He's the worst kind of signing.
They are gatekeeper signings. If Skelator's homegrown fighters can beat them, they have a name on their resume. If they can't, then we know they're not good enough. Plus, both are rarely in boring fights. Good signings.
he lost to a Russian in Russia by decision. And Yakovlev is the very definition of lay'n'pray. I dont count the fight against the man's ability to be a force. Prior to that he had 4 consecutive knockouts and has a knockout after his loss. Daley should be in the UFC right now.
No he shouldn't. He couldn't manage a single win in Strikeforce. Knocking out a string of bums in 2nd tier promotions doesn't erase the Strikeforce failures. Yakolev was the first decent fighter he faced since Strikefirce, and he lost all 3 rounds. I will concede to TFK's gatekeeper logic but that basically says " We're not sure OUR fighters are that good." To me, that's a poor strategy.
And he was layed on practically the whole damn fight. Hey whatever. even Joe Rogan agrees he should be in the UFC. Basically saying dana banning him for life is ridiculous. Name ten guys in the 170 division that would beat daley? He is top ten for sure in 170.
Good singings by the way. You guys must realize that Bellator can't compete with UFC's talent. What they can do is put on the most entertaining fights with the most entertaining fighters, and that's what they're aiming for with these guys.
Holy shit. I can name 7 guys still fighting that already beat Daley and would beat him again today. But just to ridicule you, here are 10 guys that dust the floor with Daley 1) Lombard 2) Askren 3) Rory 4) Hendricks 5) Lawler 6) Condit 7) Maia 8) Brown 9) Woodley 10) Take your pick of anyone that can grapple like Shields, Ellenberger, Kim, Fitch Man, that's off the top of my head. Hell, I'd pick Rick Hawn and Lima to beat him in Bellator. Add Nick Diaz to the list if he ever fights again. Daley isn't top 10. No. He hasn't beat a quality opponent at 170 since Kampmann. Oh, not to mention, I can't think of a top tier fighter that's missed weight as much as Daley.
Just to ridicule me? wtf. Who are you dude? And your list is ridiculous IMO. he hasnt beat a quality opponent, because the quality opponents are in the UFC.
Agreed. If they are given star treatment, then it's bullshit though. But if they are put in a tournament or in tough matches, it's only a plus.
Daley fought quality opposition in Strikeforce (Diaz and Woodley) and soundly lost. Just curious, I'd love to see the guys on my list that you think Daley would beat.
i couldnt give two shits about daley but from that list he'd ko lawler, rory, brown, ellenberger. styles
It's funny you say "styles" and then list guys with significant wrestling advantages over Daley. But I don't really care about that. Even if the guys you picked CHOSE to stand and trade with Daley, I give them a better than 50/50 chance of winning. Daley is basically a 170 pound version of Melvin Guillard with even less grappling skill and worse work ethic. I'd love to hear other opinions. Maybe I just grossly underrate Daley. That being said, he hasn't stopped an above average opponent since 2009. I think my opinion is dead on.
Has he missed weight more than Anthony Johnson? The UFC needs to have some credibility. Keeping Daley out forever is justified. I only wish they'd play similar hard ball with the juicers. However, they won't because the UFC looks out for itself first, not the sport, and this is one area where those two things don't overlap.
I agree with you and the Guillard comparison is apt. Daley is a guy who can beat top 10 guys and lose to top 30 guys. He's fun to watch and he's a fuckhead.
Honestly I agree with Trpl. I'd pick Rory over him without hesitation, it would be a 1 sided fight, same with Lawlor. I'd be surprised if Daley even beat Brown or Ellenburger. Daley simply isn't very good, and certainly not UFC material. However Trpl, he does actually have a couple of wins in Strikeforce before those 3 losses. Don't you remember him KOing Scott Smith?
My list? Who on the list would you pick Daley to beat? Again, I find the counter arguments on Daley interesting because I might just be giving him too little credit. That being said, I'd literally bet my life that Daley wouldn't beat Lawler, MacDonald or Brown. OK, maybe not my life, but definitely someone's life.
Holy shit. I hit this on the head. Coker just announced Shamrock and Kimbo will fight on June 20th. Just a couple weeks after watching Schlemenko knockout Manhoef with a spinning back fist and really looking forward to some Bellator fights, Coker destroys the momentum. Shamrock is 51. Is that really the message Coker wants to send. He won't gain ay credibility with novelty acts like Kimbo and Shamrock.
