In a case of not-so-natural-selection moviegoers flocked to watch Lucy while the lesser brains of Hercules and Apes had to conform with second and third place. At the tune of $43.8 million Lucy puts Scarlett Johansson as a bonafide action star who can open a movie by herself. It also helped that her kick-ass role as Black Widow from Captain America: The Winter Soldier was still fresh in the minds of moviegoers. This solid opening of Lucy could be the push she needed to convince Marvel to give her the solo Black Widow spin-off film. Lucy also marks the return of French director Luc Besson to box office gold and his best opening ever.

Underperforming in the second spot, Dwayne Johnson's Hercules took only $29.8 million proving for the second time this year that modern audiences aren't that interested in a Hercules movie if it is not an animated Disney version. Bad reviews didn't help either. It also marks another big budget sword and sandal film that underperforms (Pompeii, 300: Rise of An Empire). The film also opened to a bit lower numbers in foreign markets, so it won't make much above its $100 million budget internationally. So forget plans of a sequel...or at least a high budgeted sequel starring The Rock.

Dawn of The Planet of The Apes drops from first to third spot with a 53% decline. The second chapter in the Caesar saga (rumored to be a trilogy before moving on to a different future timeframe and new characters) took home $16.7 million for a three weeks total of $172.4 million domestically which puts it on its way to best the total domestic numbers of its last two predecessors ( $176m & $180m). BUT it looks like it is struggling in the international market in comparison with 'Rise of the planet of the Apes' numbers at this same point of days released. That film made $305 million internationally with a total worldwide gross of $485 million. 'Dawn' has made so far $181.9 million and it has stiff competition from Transformers and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy in those markets. Unless this film opens big in China & Japan, the chances of reaching the numbers of the previous film looks slim.

The Purge: Anarchy took a 64% drop in its second week at the tune of $10 million. The $9 million budget film has grossed so far $51 million and will easily outgross the first film's total numbers ($64 million). Universal has a very profitable and cheap franchise in their hands. Planes: Fire & Rescue continues its disappointing run with a mere $9.5 million in its second week. The film has grossed so far $35.4 million and is very unlikely that it will reach the $90 million total of last year's Planes. Cameron Diaz Sex Tape also continues underperforming with $6 million for a total of $26 million in its second week.

Transformers Age of Extinction added $4.7 million to its bank for a domestic total of $236 million which is lower than previous films in the franchise. BUT comes the international market to the rescue where it has grossed a whopping $730 million for a worldwide total so far of $966 million! Is a no brainer that this film will pass the $1 billion mark and that its next sequel will be catering to the tastes of foreign markets like China where it had the biggest opening ever of any film in that country and has grossed there an amazing $301 million!!! I'll be not surprised if the next transformers plot is set entirely in China.

Bombing in the 8th spot is the debut of And So It Goes. The geriatric romcom starring Michael Douglas & Diane Keaton was trying to emulate the success of As Good as it Gets with a somewhat similar title, even though the plot and also starring Diane Keaton were from Something's Gotta Give. But it lacked the one thing audiences loved about those two older films: Jack Nicholson. This film took only $4.6 million and while the studio is not releasing its budget numbers we know that the salaries of Douglas, Keaton and director Bob Reiner were higher than $4.6 million.

It's Luc Besson. He hasn't made a good movie since the mid nineties.

Bullshit. "The Lady" was very good. The man has not made many movies in general since the 90s. 5 i think. He has written some really good ones tho.

    Anthony, Anthony:
How many times do I have to explain here that Panchy is just a fictional character? The real me is a college graduated professional. English Grammar 101 is not that difficult, right? In fact I am developing a Facebook page on the adventures of Panchy and other characters I created utilizing IMVU avatars. Maybe I'll give you the link if you don't share it with the fightbeat creeps.

Then I don't know what you are talking about. I can assure you, swearing on a bible, that my box office reports are 100% originals and not from some freaking e-mail 'newsletter' . But just to demonstrate I have no hard feelings about your doubts, here, enjoy this MILF pic.
