[h=1]Jon Jones injured, forced out of planned UFC 178 meeting with Daniel Cormier[/h] By: MMAjunkie Staff August 12, 2014 6:00 pm SHARE TWEET EMAIL It turns out the grudge match is going to have to wait. UFC officials today announced that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (20-1 MMA, 14-1 UFC) suffered a “leg injury” in training and has been forced to withdraw from the highly anticipated UFC 178 headliner opposite undefeated contender Daniel Cormier (15-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC). The bout has been rescheduled for UFC 182, which takes place Jan. 3 in Las Vegas. Additional reports indicated Jones’ injury includes a torn meniscus in his knee, as well as a sprained ankle. A flyweight title fight between current champ Demetrious Johnson (20-2-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC) and Chris Cariaso (17-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC), which was expected to serve as the co-feature of this month’s UFC 177 event, will now be the main event of UFC 178, which takes place on Sept. 27 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. While Jones and Cormier have long been on a collision course, it took a little bit of bad luck on Alexander Gustafsson’s part to get the fight booked. The big Swede originally was set to take part in a rematch of his epic UFC 165 clash with Jones, but injury forced Gustafsson out of the bout, and Cormier happily took his place. After some initial banter on social media, the clash between the two became the center of the MMA world after the two came to blows during a pre-fight media session in the lobby of Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. Things then took a decidedly darker turn when leaked footage from on off-air incident surfaced and featured some off-color language, as well as a Jones threat to “literally kill” Cormier, who had expressed a desire to spit in the champ’s face. Now the blockbuster matchup will have to wait until 2015.
Ultimately, it WON'T Matter When this Bout Happens, but it's Still DISAPPOINTING to Hear... REED Was Anticipating Jones-Cormier MORE than he Is Any Other Fight this Year, MMA OR Boxing... REED:hair:
Oh...how convenient, the biggest fight of the year being moved to New Year Weekend. I hope Jones recovers from his "injury"
This really fucks Gustafsson because he should be able to fight Jones ahead of Cormier now. Also, I think Gustafsson is more vulnerable to losing than Cormier during a wait-in-line period. I don't think they needed or probably even wanted Jones on the NYE card. Rousey + any of the other main champs is plenty.
While this May Be True, it Has NO Impact on Gustaffson Getting a RE w/Jones, in REED's Opinion... Jones-Gustaffson II HAS to Happen Eventually...The Sheer EXCITEMENT & COMPETITIVENESS of their 1st Meeting Guarantees we'll See Part II, @ Some Point, Even if Gustaffson Trips Up Along the Way... REED:kidcool:
So at the end if the day, after all the talking and pushing and shoving, Jones says "fuck you" and makes Cormier wait. The extra 3 months could kill Cormier's waistline.
droppin some fuckin weight will help that too, you gotta admit its a bit ridiculous to be in that shape as an athlete, even though its not uncommon for wrestlers
I think he looks so much better. He has a strange shape to him, but he isnt going to look any different at 205.
i just goggled him i didnt see the henderson fight, so i only remember him as hw, that big shirt in the weigh in is deceiving
Instead of Getting "Thinner", Moving from Heavy to Lightheavy, Cormier Got "Less Fat"... REED:hammert:
Yep. You look at him weighing in at 205 and it seems like he's carrying enough fat to make 185 if he was lean. By the way, it looks like Gustaffson gets Anthony Johnson while waiting for Jones or Cormier. That is a great matchup. Alexander has the footwork to completely shut Rumble down but Johnson's power looks crazy at 205 so it should be fun.
he reminds me of Fedor. But when fedor was younger, he was like a tank. He got fatter as he got older. That being said, Fedor should have been at 185 or 205.
yeah. He is pretty much Fedor's height. If he got into the shame Fedor was in when he started, he would look good. But now he just looks like fedor when he was pudgy.
Yeah, it's CLEAR Cormier Could Get to '85...He'd be a Fucking MONSTER @ That Weight... As Others have Stated, it's VERY Impressive What Cormier has Done @ Heavy & Lightheavy (Thus Faaaaaaaar), Given his Obvious LACK of Overall Size... REED:hammert:
Rumble Johnson Says Overeem Hurt Bones Jones "Accidentally on Purpose"... http://www.mmamania.com/2014/8/19/6...em-hurt-jon-jones-accidentally-on-purpose-mma REED:mut:
I didn't have Anthony Johnson specifically in mind above, but he is a perfect example of a guy that Gus is more likely to lose to than either Cormier or Jones. Still the favorite, but the kind of mma favorite that loses all the time.
