As a followup, as cdogg said the MLS uses Socialist principles in line with the other major sports in the US...so team success is a lot more cyclical and parity is greatly increased.

The league wouldn't risk losing a market like New York or LA to relegation. It would be like Man U being relegated in the BPL.

That's basically what it would be like comparatively if the MLS lost a market like NY or Seattle or LA.

Granted, the size to population ratio doesn't work as well because England has a lot more football supports than Murica but it would be pretty devastating for the MLS if that happened given how much of the MLS's support comes from basically a few large markets.

Perhaps a better example would be taking all of the BPL and replacing them with the Championship clubs. Or maybe just the big ones like Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc.

EDIT: On second thought, I never realized how population dense England is. My God, how do you people live...on top of each other?

The only time you could've had promotion and relegation in say, Baseball would have been in the early 20th century when the minor leagues were 100% independent and farm system didn't exist... Once Branch Rickey introduced the farm system in St Louis, other teams followed suit, minor league owners cashed in rather than fight it and the minors became what they are today- the property of MLB

I agree with this. Some of the minor leagues had real quality back then too. I am not a big baseball guy but I like the history of it and especally am into the OOTP baseball series which really opened my eyes to the historical aspect of baseball. I drafted a slugger in the late 1800s named Buck J Freeman..historically he's kinda a blip on the map but in a vacuum he is/was quite an awesome slugger. I think he hit 31 homeruns for me over the 1898 and 1899 seasons based on his historical production in real life. That sounds like nothing but it was amazing back then.

Anyway the point is he spent several years playing for Toronto in the minors where he was one of the greatest sluggers in the league...then spent some time in Minnesota towards the end.

The old Baltimore Orioles in the early 20s as well were a great team and of course we can't overlook the negro leagues either

So lets take a team like the Comos, they could be creating something valuable to the community, developing young players and the game of football. However, without a major cash injection they are going nowhere.

Now, a guy like David Beckham can create a team out of thin air and enter the MLS, that's fair? I would imagine in this scenario the Cosmos would have genuine fans, where as the new team created out of nothing is a bit like an X-Factor contestant.

As far as I can see, American fans are the problem not the system. Personally I think its great that the MLS is taking off, but this aint Baseball. The world series in football is a global game and the American way (franchise) is ultimately holding the game back over there.

I don't think we need to PM as unlike in Gen Discussion this part of the forum isn't public.

This site has most games. You'll have to deal with some pop ups and sometimes you'll have to reload the stream but it works 90% of the time.

Balotelli seems to get roughed up every game.

Liverpool not scored in two games. They might as well play with 10 men rather than play Balotelli. Heard he didn't get a sniff today. Costa starts for Chelski. I thought Ivanovich was banned as he received a red card against United? Is it not a three match ban or have they changed the rules?

Can't see anything other than a Real Madrid Comprehensive win over Liverpool. Can see them putting in 4-6 if I'm honest.

Newcastle dominating possession, although neither team really produced many clear opportunities.

Did I hear correctly that Newcastle have only lost 1 of their last 8 games? Pardew.....what a man.

Yer comment fits in very well wi' the Beeb, McAndrew - Lineker just piped up wi':

"Four wins on the bounce for Newcastle. The answer is not always to sack the manager."

    In Anthony style... thoughts?

We were horrible again. Sterling out wide, Mario the loan striker, Lallana an unused sub :dunno:

Good win for Newcastle. I picked them in the Predos because of the hot streak.

    Chelsea-QPR on US TV.

Do you think Balotelli is showing more signs of laziness these days? Playing him up front by himself is a no no. Maybe once Sturridge comes back Balotelli will start to shine.

My bad, I meant to say Liverpool. The 12 VB's I've had in the past few hours have gone to my head.

Ever since I said I fancied Nottingham Forest to get promoted, their form has taken a turn for the worse. 2-0 down today to Huddersfield.
