I'd certainly make Cotto the favorite, as he's simply a better fighter. But given his age and mileage, I can't make him a lock. The Ginger has a chance.

Cotto's gonna need his speed, which was on display against Martinez.

If older brother put Canelo on queer street in round one, Miguel certainly can knock him out. But then Canelo could do the same thing to aging battle worn Cotto.

More catch-weight, make-up division bullshit from these fucking midgets.

Middleweight and Welterweight are so weak we have this shit going on.

Agreed. Cotto is the better overall fighter, but Ginger got a 10 Year age advantage and hits pretty hard lol.

I've never liked catchweights but at least they were fairly uncommon years ago. Now it seems like weight is yet another thing to negotiate for every other fight.

We already had too many weightclasses... now we have weightclasses in between weightclasses depending on who your promoter is

I hardly ever mention any championship titles anymore, since they have lost their meaning. Now the only meaningful title is "the best in the world"

However, to be the best in the world you would need to have some weight classes, and now that they are going extinct too, it is turning pretty impossible to rate what any fight is worth? If Canelo wins, does that make him the middleweight champion, or is it a non-title fight for the middleweight champ, or is it a non-title fight of Canelo or what the fuck is it? Ridiculous.

That being said, the fight itself is an interesting one and could be good scrap too. I pick Canelo, I still think he gets bashed way too much here. He is actually a damn good fighter, it isn't his fault if HBO has hyped him up too much. Losing to PBF in your first big fight isn't that much of an embarrassment

    It makes me laugh.

I figured out why people make fun of the heavyweight division.

Its because none of the other fucking divisions exist anymore.

That's not fair to Canelo. 155.73000927 would be comfortable to him.

Your first paragraph is like some Teddy Atlas rant from 12 years ago. That's not a compliment. It wasn't accurate then, it's not now.

The weight class thing isn't too hard to figure out. The sanctioning bodies have belts at each weight class. To fight for a specific belt, a fighter needs to weigh in at or below the weight limit. On any voluntary defense, the fighters can contract to fight at a lower weight than the belt's weight class.

A mandatory challenger always has the option to use the sanctioning body's rules to get a title shot and a fight can then always take place at the weight class limit if the mandatory challenger wants it to.

I was going to pick Canelo, but after seeing his chin checked by ther smaller, chubier cotto, i changed my mind and pick Cotto to win.

mikE, have welterweights traditionally tried to come in at 147, or as close to it, as possible.............or have they usually come in at 142........:dunno:

Yes a fighter has to weigh in below the weight limit but the opponent usually has a right to use the full limit, not five pounds less.

As for the first paragraph, it is my take and I don't see what is wrong with it. I have no idea of who has 90% of the major title belts even though I remember most of the top fighters. This is where it has come to for me, if you feel otherwise that's fine

Cotto is the far more proven & far more skilled fighter.. but he's also got a lot of miles on him. Still, I think he has enough left to beat Canelo.

Exactly the same for me, I literally have no idea who holds what belt. I only know who is the consensus champion, and who the division's best fighters are.

He was getting backed up by Floyd.

Cotto is going to stop this fat legged Ginger mook.

In Floyd's defense, there's a HUGE difference between Floyd and Cotto defense wise. Floyd also has a much better chin than Cotto.

Of course, and Floyd is still arguably the best fighter in the world, even age whatever age he is.

But my point is purely in regards to chin. Floyd isn't exactly a puncher at 154, and he was backing Canelo up with punches.

Not sure where Canelo's reputation as this iron chinned monster came from.

If Canelo was getting stung by Floyd, I can see Cotto properly hurting him and stopping him.

Yeah, I have no idea who has any of these belts. They don't matter. I know who the best guys are in each division and that's all that matters any more.
