Donald Cerrone wanted another fight as soon as he finished his UFC 182 win over Myles Jury last Saturday, and he got one, as he will step in for the injured Eddie Alvarez on January 18 in Boston to take on his former WEC nemesis Benson Henderson.

UFC President Dana White announced the bout on Twitter Monday evening.

Winner of six straight, Cerrone is getting ever closer to a shot at the UFC lightweight championship, but first he hopes to take care of some unfinished business with former champion Henderson, who he faced twice in memorable WEC title fights.

In their first meeting in October of 2009, Henderson won a five-round battle seen by most as that year’s best fight, and one of the best in WEC history. Henderson scored a submission win in their rematch in April of 2010, but a week from Saturday, the two will meet for a third time, and the stakes are higher than ever for both men.

Wow indeed. That sounds like a great bout. Cowboy is peaking, and Henderson is always dangerous even though he's had a few rough outings in recent times. I don't think Cowboy will have to chase too much, but he needs to watch for submissions as that's what he was caught with last time.

I think Cowboy takes it this time by hard fought decision. I don't see him stopping Benson as he just doesn't have the explosiveness of Rafael Dos Anjos, and that's what it takes to land on Benson consistently enough to stop him. Who knows? It could be that Benson just has his number, but I doubt it.

Shame it's 3 rounds and that McGregor showcase bout is 5. (Won't ever go anywhere close to that)

Henderson wins again with little problem.

His movement and speed left Cerrone helpless in their first 2 fights. Not much has changed with either guy.

Pretty fucking short time for Cerrone between fights. Otherwise I'd favor him slightly

Yep, im never confident about picking someone to beat this guy. 3 things could occur. He could rob the win like he has many times. He could smother you to death and actually win or he could get outclassed like he did against pettis. Who the fuck knows.

I was rooting for Cowboy, but I thought Benson won every round clearly. He's the one who got robbed this time. Every round was close though.

I can't wait to see the title fight with Aldo and McGregor. :) I'm picking Aldo, but I'm hoping Colin can find a way to win. I'd love to see him as the new champ.

i thought benson won. wouldn't call it a complete robbery, but i thought he won rounds 2 and 3 with more effective striking. the pendred vs spencer decision was probably one of the worst i've seen in mma.

mcgregor's a very dangerous striker. the way he broke siver down was pretty impressive. he has quick hands and has a lot of power behind his straight left. should be a good, competitive fight.

The Cerrone\Henderson fight was close, neither fighter did a whole lot, but the judges got it right.

    Aldo\McGregor should be really fun.

I thought Cowboy clearly won the 1st round, the last two could have gone either way. I gave the third to Cerrone.

Aldo-McGregor is the best fight to be made in the UFC atm.

Other fighters and fans acted like the Cerrone-Bendo decision was some kind of robbery. In all honesty, that fight could have been scored a draw or 30-27 for EITHER guy and I wouldn't find fault in the judging. It looked like a glorified sparring session.

Its amazing to me that McGregor is getting a title shot without having to face any of the other top 5 guys in the division.

Seriously. Frankie had to fight Swanson. Mendes will be fighting Lamas. Meanwhile McGregor beats a couple marginal top 10 guys in Poirer and Silver and catapults to a title shot.

I think McGregor presents a solid challenge for Aldo and it should be a great fight. But personally I would rather have seen Connor in a title eliminator versus Edgar or Mendes first.

Agree with Trplsec. Why is McGregor getting a title shot exactly? Because he's a mouthy Irishman?

yea, had mcgregor impressively beaten either mendes or especially edgar, i would be confident in picking mcgregor over aldo. that could've derailed ufc's plans though. it would be very difficult for me to pick against edgar.

I think it was more a look of disappointment that Bendo thought he was robbed. They are good friends. I thought the fight was too close to really know for sure who won.

I think it's more Aldo needs an opponent that he has not faced and the UFC needs a big event. Yes, talking does get you fights. If the Fans are interested in it enough, they can dictate that fights. Conor has done an amazing job at self promotion.

I guess he has yeah, and having a big mouth is seemingly a big part of being a big star, especially in the fight game for some reason.

But still, he doesn't deserve a title shot. Poirier is a good win, but German Dennis is not really relevant these days, not exactly a title eliminator type of victory.

Ironically he does have a good shot against Aldo, who I've always thought was overrated, and appears to be past his best.

My boy Pettis would beat them both on the same night.

That was an awesome performance from Bendo.

Was that toothpick in his mouth the entire fight?

    not really

He only won cause the other guy is inexperienced, and was completely gassed in the 4th round. Pretty sure he wont do anything worthwhile at ww.

    Ehh ok.

He was an underdog with just four weeks since his last fight, stepping up in weight division against a guy who dwarfs him. He was getting rag dolled in the second round and turned it around.

Don't let JOM minimize Henderson's performance. Thatch isn't a household name but he's a young guy with raw power and probably had a 10-15 pound weight advantage over Henderson on fight night.

Henderson fought a smart fight. He made a Thatch miss a ton of energy-zapping power shots. And Ben did a great job of digging hard, accurate body shots in the first couple rounds himself.

Sure Henderson exploited Thatch's inexperience but I'm not sure that detracts from his performance. One part of being a well-rounded fighter IS experience. Henderson used his tools better than Thatch used his. For that, it was a good win for Bendo.

By the way, love or hate Henderson, it's just stupid not to appreciate his willingness to jump up 15 pounds on short notice. And face a guy that has been brutally destructive. That's ballsy by any definition.
