When has a liberal leftist magazine like Rolling Stone ever gave a glowing review to a film it considers right wing conservative agenda? This film's six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, just exposes that bullshit bias review as what it really is: crap. :shit #2:

That's not a movie review, it's an Op-Ed from somebody who apparently expected a Michael Moore documentary.

Anybody who's ever watched any Eastwood directed movie, knows he doesn't very often give context. His stories are stripped down. This is this guy or woman, or this is this group of guys or women......they pretty much live in their own little world. He's economical and he tells very straightforward stories. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

He's not going to ever make a "Syriana", but on the other hand he's never going to make a "Rambo" either.

Personally I think he's had more misses then hits in the last 20 years, but I think 90% of the criticism here is because the movie was surprisingly successful. If it had a $15 million opening with whispers of Oscar contender, or the little movie that could word of mouth he usually enjoys, we wouldn't be seeing anywhere near the backlash we are now.

It was pretty good but I felt it dragged a bit toward the 2nd half.

Bradley Cooper was solid but I thought Jake Gyllenhaal was definitely better in Nightcrawler and should have gotten a nomination instaed of BC.

It definitely makes him look less sadistic and bloodthirsty than he was. He's guilt-ridden in the movie about what he does, but apparently he said he "enjoyed" killing in real life and in his own autobiography he makes up stories, such as beating up Jesse Ventura. Ventura sued him, and then his estate after he died, and Ventura won.

:bears: Yeah, that's the impression I had of the guy, that he was a bit of a sadistic killer and a sensationalist.

As long as he is killing bad guys, im good with it. Usually snipers need approval before taking a shot tho.

I really liked this movie, at the time I knew nothing about the guy or the fact that it was an Eastwood film. I was quite surprised to see all the negative articles on-line. In terms of propaganda, this movie is no different to any other Hollywood production. If anything the sniper comes across like a brain washed fanatic.

Anyway, decent war pic & Cooper played the part well. 7/10

Movie was pretty good at face/entertainment value. Having said that it was quite a piece of propaganda about that lying sociopathic scum Chris Kyle. 7/10

Saw it on Wed night. Good movie, but overrated. Everything about it was overrated.

It'll almost surely win for Best Picture, but it doesn't deserve to.

He also claimed to have climbed onto of the Superdome during Katrina then killed around 30 people he saw with weapons.

Another claim of his was he was carjacked, shot and killed the two carjackers. When the cops came, he gave them his drivers license and when the cop ran it a number for the Pentagon came up. The cop called the number and someone at the Pentagon told them to let him go.

American Sniper - Finally got around to seeing this. A typical Eastwood character study. Bare bones story telling. Nothing too fancy. Bradley Cooper did well with what little direction he was probably given from Eastwood. As usual with Eastwood, there's not a ton of nuance put into the action scenes (there are some exceptions in his career).

An easy watch with a few tense moments. Kyle's wife did a little too much crying and moaning for my comfort . Best comparison I can think of would be to "Hurt Locker". "Hurt Locker" was the better movie by far, but this was pretty good. Like most Eastwood directed stuff IMO, not great, but good.

    7/10
