Fun card. Frank Mir is shot by almost any definition you care to apply. He has looked horrible over the last 3 years. His reaction to getting hit over has worsened at an alarming degree over his last 5 fights or so. That being said, the dude would have made Mike McCallum proud with the way he hooked off his jab and dropped Bigfoot Silva. It was really a thing of beauty mostly because it is almost never seen in MMA. Unfortunately, Frank probably convinced himself with the win that his losing streak was the result of bad camps, injuries or not training properly. And because of the win tonight, the UFC probably matches him with a top 10 opponent next. It is also good to see Michael Johnson fully living up to the expectations that be brought with him from TUF. I'm not sure I'd pick him to beat anyone in the top 5, but he'll give any of them a good fight.
I'm pretty amazed that Johnson looked good. This is a guy who lost to Brookins and Jury, and just seemed like a bit of a jittery afleet, not a particularly good or skilled fighter. But it looks like he's netted some solid wins since then, over Lauzon, Tibau and Guillard.
Boss, it ain't coincidental that Bigfoot looked soft with zero muscle tone and a flabby pouch hanging from his stomach.
Bigfoot's chin may have been ruined by Arlovski. Mir looked better than he has in awhile, but that's partly because of the guy in front of him. I think Mir looks about as good as he can get, but he doesn't have the wrestling ability or handskills to keep up with Cain or Junior Dos Santos. He has more success than either at submissions, but I doubt he'd get the chance to grab ahold of either of them. Still, there's a lot of heavyweights he could beat if they make the mistake of leaving an arm or leg out there. Mir's best days are likely behind him, but he can still give a lot of people trouble.
