My prediction is that Joe would have snorted a few lines, and said no way in Hell I'm facing this guy. But for arguments sake, who wins? I think Kov would have given the slap master a vicious beating. Zag just didn't have enough power to really deter Kov. Plus, it was just in Zag's DNA to trade and I think in the long-run Kov would do much damage to him. I remember chinless Charles Brewer being able to hurt a prime version of Calz. By the late rounds, Kov would be bouncing him around the ring and Poppa Enzo would likely throw in the towel and save his boy.
Pretty much. Joe had the tools to fight the right fight, but his pride would get him to flurry and exchange with the bigger and stronger guy, and as you said, he can't deter him. Kovalev via late stoppage indeed. For kicks, imagine what Kovalev does to any version of Jeff Lacy. ::
Calzaghe is not much better than Pascal, and he has even less power to deter him. It wont be a lot more competitive than last night fight, I disagree about calzaghe proprension to slugging, I'd expect him to be in clinching mode, like he nearly always was when faced against fighters that threatened him (Reid and Hopkins come to mind)
Fucking hell is Kovalev getting overrated. Pascal lost half a dozen years ago to the fighting farmer. He's decent, but no more than that. Cazalghe was a lot better than everyone Kovalev has feasted himself on thus far (including the decrepit version of Hopkins Kov fought). MTF
You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things. There is MORE than ONE way to "Discourage" a guy. How did Niccolino Locche "discourage" Paul Fuji into quitting......how did Ray Leonard "discourage" Roberto Duran into quitting......?? With their vaunted power??? Kovalev would do a lot of missing and missing tires you out. Plus Kovalev would go into the ring CONVINCED that Joe was not strong or hard punching. Joe Calzaghe, the slapper, dumped Chris Eubank on his arse with one hook. Nigel Benn barely got a legit KD over Eubank {Eubank slipped on some water in the corner} when they fought and Benn crippled McClellan. He also proved harder hitting and stronger than Jeff Lacy, another guy, whom if Calzaghe never fought, would also be in here in MM kicking the shit out of Joe. Calzaghe is faster, more active, just as strong, and has underrated power. This notion that he just gets folded by Kovalev is nonsense.
Calz is NOT just as strong as Kov. That's horseshit. The gap in power between the two of them is larger than the gap in speed. Calz had fast hands, but let's not make it seem like he had the handspeed of RJ or Ray Leonard. And Kov is FAAARRR from slow. Kov is faster and more athletic than Kessler was, and he's light years better than Lacy in every facet.
Who has Kovalev proven his strength against............show me where he manhandles these fucking dudes......
Another mythical matchup for sure since that homo would never in a million years take a fight like this ... The euros love this faggot ... Dass dey one... Yeah, the guy who comfortably made 168 his whole career except for a couple of fights against a shot old man and a decade-plus middleweight is AS STRONG AS the large light heavyweight... You can't make this shit up
Yeah, saying Calz is as strong as Kov is pretty absurd. I re-watched Kov-Pascal yesterday. Kov was physically pushing Pascal around the ring like a rag doll. He was also physically man handling Hopkins unlike anybody else B-Hop has ever faced. Calz only real edge on Kov is speed, and like I said, the gap there is smaller than the gap in power. Kov is very quick handed. He throws combinations with FULL force too, not a 6-punch combo comprised of 1 hard punch and 5 slaps. Calz fans make it seem like Joe had the handspeed of the 130 version of Camacho.
Calzaghe fought two good fighters, one was Kessler and the other was a 78 year old spoiler with a style perfectly suited to fail against a guy who throws 100 slaps per frame... He is the most overrated fighter in history ... He was not great
This forum is NOTHING. Go to ESB and see how overrated he is. I shit you not, he's been picked over Spinks, prime Jones, and Foster on MM's on that forum. Just last week, a thread was started on who had the fastest hands of all time and his name was mentioned SEVERAL times. Irish is crazy to say Calz is underrated. It's not like we're saying fuckin Jermain Taylor would beat him. Kov is the most talented fighter at 175 since Jones prime ended.
What somebody said about Froch on a different forum is their business. Amazing.....Kovalev was now "pushing his man around like a rag doll".....no, that was Pascal running like fuck like the leap amateur he is. Froch was backing up Pascal too. So was Paul Smith in the 2002 Commonwealth Games Final.
I like Froch but he ain't beating Kovalev. I see him getting stopped brutally in that one. As for Calzaghe, I agree he was fast but I wouldn't place him in top 10 as far as hand speed goes. There's just too many guys that were faster than him.
Froch is simply not fluid enough to avoid shots, but crucially, not fluid enough to get his own shots off too. He can't discourage Kovlev by making him miss and he can't discourage Kovalev by hitting him back. Just how this is an indictment of Calzaghe is beyond me.
Who in the Hell said it was? I stated earlier that Calz was better than Froch and would have beaten Froch.
Sheika had the skill of Ezzard Charles, the speed of Jones, and the power of Foster. Yet Calz toyed with him........ Doesn't bode well for Kovvles......
Calzaghe diffused the bombs of one Tocker Pudwill, one of the most ferocious brawlers in ring history
tocker pudwill >>>>>>>>>> will mcIntyre this man, McIntyre, lost 120-108 x3 to Dana Rosenblatt. exactly one year later, he was deemed a worthy foe for a calzaghe title defense.
