UFC on FOX: Machida vs Rockhold

So far the prelims have been very entertaining. The main card was stacked when the co-main event was Jacare-Romero, but it's still a great free card. The main event is probably the best match up at 185 south of Weidman-Belfort.

Jacare looked awesome. I don't know if he'll get the next title shot, but he should be in the running.

 

machida was pretty much finished after that first round onslaught. impressive win by rockhold. he should be favored to beat souza again in a rematch if thats what happens next. i still think weidman is the best guy at middleweight

 

yea and he beat him in a similar fashion the first time they fought. i think souza would've beaten romero though

 

Normally I'd agree. I am a big stickler for the guy who has earned the shot being next in line to fight the champion. Souza certainly has earned it, but he also has a loss to Rockhold. So I am not quite as upset if Rockhold moves ahead of him.

By the way, I think Rockhold is the best fighter in the division right now. I think it's just a matter of whether he takes the belt from Weidman or Belfort.

Max Holloway impressed the hell out of me with his destruction of Cub Swanson. Swanson is a legit top 5 guy in the weight class and Holloway handled him like a scrub.

And lastly, Paige VanZant can actually fight. In addition to being the hottest fighter on the UFC roster, she also has a nasty, scrapper edge to her. She gave a "how do like me now" beatdown to Felice Herrig last night.

 

Damn, I had no idea Rockhold was that good.

I'd only seen him in a Strikeforce fight, none of his UFC fights, and he looked decent but nothing special. I thought Machida was a clear cut above and would beat him up.

You really think he'd beat Wideboy Trpl?

 

Weidman is a harder puncher and is more fluid with his boxing. Rockhold seems like he can kick better but overall i think weidman is superior in every other aspect.

 

Neither are anything special.

Rockhold is a better athlete though.

I don't think she's attractive at all really, a bit too chipmunky for my tastes, like Larry's wife on Curb.

She also looks much older than she is.

 

I just watched the fight, and it looks to me like Rockhold's main strengths are size, strength and power. He still doesn't look that good to me, tbh, kind of slow and sloppy, but he obviously gets the results.

Weidboy looks clearly better to me, I'd have to favour him, though Rockhold obviously has a decent shot through sheer size and power.

She has the CLASSIC American chipmunk look, no other country seems to produce that look.

 

If Paige was sitting next to you in school, she'd be a hot chick. I am wide open to pictures of female UFC fighters that are hotter. It's a taste thing obviously, but I find Paige far more attractive than Rousey or Tate.

Regarding Rockhold, when you put everything together on this guy, he is tough to beat. He has size and range on the physical attribute side. He has great take down defense as witnessed in the Kennedy and Jacare fights and too a lesser degree in the Boetsch fight. His striking is not elite but his size and power in his kicks make him as dangerous as almost anyone in the division when standing.

All that said, the dude is also pretty competent on the ground as he has a bunch of submission wins including guys typically hard to submit like Bisping, and Boetsch. There are a lot of BJJ black belts out there but Rockhold uses it effectively and it's an improving part of his game. The dude won the Mundials as a purple belt before he fought in Strikeforce.

You take away Belfort's juiced up spinning back kick and Rockhold is already the MW Champion in my opinion. We will see but I'd bet him over Weidman if they fought tomorrow.

 

Curious as well. Not sure I've ever heard of the "Classic American Chipmunk" look.

Maybe you guys are used to it, being American and all, but there is a certain type of face that only seems to come out of America.

It's a sort of round, cheesy face, with big teeth, basically. Just like Paige, and like Larry's wife Cheryl on Curb your Enthusiasm.

She's not exactly ugly, but I just find her a bit cheesy and chipmunky looking. I think Rousey and Tate are more attractive, and there's a couple of random female fighters I've seen too, that are more attractive.

No, she looks sufficiently different, and less American.

 

It's more angular, less round, more defined nose, and much less cheesy.

It is bordering on a cheesy American face, I'll give you that, but there's still a clear difference.

There's a certain gene pool that has developed in America that creates this round, cheesy, chipmunk face, that is unmatched by any other country.

 

It's not ridiculous at all, I've heard several other Brits note the exact same thing. It's the truth. You just don't get anywhere near the same number of people with that round, cheesy face and big cornfed or veneered teeth in Yurp ::

 

I didn't say they were twins, but there is a similarity, they are the same type of person. The big toothed, American chipmunk look, they both have it.
