If Mayweather were to beat pacquiao and then accomplish the following, would you call him TBE?

I like when he's asked about Chavez he always points at his chin and just sort of shakes his head

So you think Whitaker dominates Mayweather the way he did Azumah Nelson, Pendleton etc? Listen....I'm a HUUUUUUGE Professor Nelson fan....but if that 5'5" Featherweight could objectively win 4 rounds from Whitaker, I just don't see the logic in suggesting that Whitaker victory over Mayweather at 135lbs is a given. P4P Mayweather is better than Nelson, add the fact that he's naturally bigger, faster, taller and more elusive and.....well....should I even bother? Y'all make me laugh! Such unfounded bias.

Seriously though....break it down for me. How does Duran bust Floyd up? Is Floyd not more elusive than anyone Duran fought at 135lbs? Has Floyd not proven his toughness? What...is the 135lb Mayweather just going to sit against the ropes and invite Duran to hit him at will? Please tell me how Duran is going to "bust up" Mayweather. And don't bring Castillo into this, lol, Floyd was injured in that first fight and still won easily.

He didn't win 4 rounds unless you really really hate Pernell Whitaker ... He was a junior lightweight champ and hadn't fought at featherweight for a few years... Whitaker wasn't exactly a monstrous lightweight

He didn't win easily though, it was a very close fight that a lot of people thought Castillo won.

Duran would not give Floyd room to breathe and think, he'd bully him to the ropes every round, land meaty body shots, counter Floyd's counters, jab his way in, slip Floyd's lead right and land his own.

He'd land more leather than anyone else ever has on Floyd, slow him down, and giving him a beating late on.

Seriously, watch Cotto and Maidana trouble Floyd a hell of a lot with their basic, scrubby pressure fighting, then imagine Duran pressuring Floyd. Floyd wasn't prime no, but he is not close to being shot either, he's still arguably P4P #1, and Duran is about 100 times better than Cotto and Maidana put together.

Truthfully....I'm a big Whitaker fan, even though you don't realize it, so I'm not trying to put him down. I rarely pick against Whitaker. Sweet Pea was a magician. And yes, he'd give Floyd FITS. But then again Whitaker would give anyone fits. What I am saying is that Floyd would also give Whitaker FITS...because Floyd's defense gives everyone fits also. Whitaker has a better defence than Floyd...but that doesn't matter...both men have crazy good D so better is almost irrelevant at that level. It's a chess match and it'll come down to the judges and what they prefer. I just suspect that they'd prefer Floyd's offence.

But I can play that game also. Watch Benitez give Duran trouble. Watch Kirkland Lang give him trouble. Floyd is like 1000 times better than Lang. Duran may be better than Castillo, for example, but he's also shorter with a shorter reach. Duran's workrate drops when he has a boxer in front of him (Look at the difference between Montreal Duran and New Orleans Duran). Floyd causes all fighter's workrates to drop.

Boxing analysis is never as simple as "Cotto and Maidana had Floyd against the ropes so Duran would bust him up". If it were that simple we'd all be millionaires by now having bet on fights...because fights would be that predictable. Shit Foreman would have CAVED Ali in, judging by what Frazier and Norton did to Ali .

Roger knows what's up re: Duran, "THAT MUTHAFUCKA ONE OF THE BEST IN THE HISTORY OF THE SPORT"

What if this scenario takes place & then GGG goes on to beat Ward at 168?

I knew you'd come back with that, the thing is, those Duran losses were Duran pretty fucking far removed from his best. Post Brawl in Montreal Duran was very up and down. Floyd is a far more dedicated and consistent performer, he doesn't blow up to 200 pounds between fights, and party instead of train etc.

Basically I think Duran is Floyd's worst nightmare, style wise. A fast and relentless pressure fighter, with amazing stamina, and the best defense of any pressure fighter in boxing history.

He's on another level to anyone Floyd has fought, and happens to have the perfect style to beat Floyd. Like I said, even Floyd's own family know that, you can tell by their reactions when asked about Duran.

That's what I was getting at earlier when talking to Sly about a hypothetical Gaybox win.

What Gaybox did afterwards would be pivotal in whether the win would be judged as Gaybox being exposed, or indeed become a win for the ages. Obviously if he went on to beat Ward, it would be the latter.

if golovkin gets exposed it will be by a big puncher. if mayweather jr. were to beat the guy it would be with skill not power. it wouldnt take much away from his victory if golovkin went on to get KOd by a banger at 168lbs later down the line

Sly, Floyd would beat the Duran who lost to Kirkland Laing. Who gives a shit. Floyd would also beat the Leonard who lost to Camacho. Doesn't mean anything.

Montreal Duran or lightweight champion Duran is a whole 'nother story. Don't get me wrong, I think Floyd is one of the best lightweights ever, and I think it'd be a good fight. But Floyd has never, ever faced anything remotely close to that.

Not sure I get your point.

My point is if Gaybox never goes on to beat anyone better than the scrubs he already has and retired soon, it would be a win that seemed impressive at the time, but wouldn't go down in the history books as a great win. People would say Golovkin was exposed, was never that good to begin with, unproven, etc etc.

But if he carried on smashing everyone for a few years, and beat a marquee name such as Ward, it would be rightfully regarded as an epic win.

Exactly. When pondering mythical matchups, people aren't generally talking about the Duran who lost to Laing and the Leonard who lost to Norris or Camacho

based on the skill and ability golovkin has shown thus far it would be a tremendous win for mayweather jr.

Of course it would, but if Gaybox never went on to prove anything more than he has already, it wouldn't be regarded anywhere near as highly as a win over Hagler for example. He simply doesn't have the resumé to count as an ATG win, not yet anyway.

    Anyway...

Floyd "have" records (not just cars)

He's been a champion for 18 years, he's 19 years undefeated, 47 fights undefeated (not a record but few have exceeded it), title in 5 divisions (not a record but few have....well...you get the point)...best % punches landed vs % punches received ratio in compubox history. Y'all are sleepin' on this dude. You have an all time great fighter before you and you don't want to appreciate him when he's here. Tsk tsk...

Anyway...I just rewatched Floyd vs Maidana II. I forgot how much he has slipped. Dude is looking beatable. A great fighter usually has one more great performance so let's see if the Pacquiao fight is the one, but he should hang'em up after that one.

Leonard is 5'10" and Duran managed to reach Leonard and hurt Leonard. I have no doubts he'd be able to touch up Floyd. Whether 147 or 135, Duran beats Floyd.

    You can't reason with FloydIdiots.

Nah....on the contrary, you can't reason with Floyd haters.

Height has very little to do with getting hit. I know you know this...because you know more about the science of boxing than me, considering you have coached etc (plus I mess with you but respect your knowledge of the game). So that being said, you're only saying thsi to be difficult. Oscar hit Tito fairly easily but had trouble hitting Pernell....Tito is 4 or 5 inches taller than Pernell. Height was irrelevant. Defense determines whether or not you are hit (three forms of defense)....height is only a factor when all else is equal. Leonard's defense was not equal to Floyd...in fact Leonard himself would admit this. Leonard was no face first mickey ward type guy of course....but he was not a defensive wizard like Mayweather.

Regardless of all of that of course, I only recall Duran hurting Leonard in their first fight, and I don't recall leonard boxing and moving in their first fight, I recall him standing his ground and trading. I don't think mayweather would have elected to stand and trade with Duran. Why would he have taken the difficult path to victory when all he would have had to do to win is move and potshot? Duran shorter, with shorter arms...Floyd moving and potshotting like he did at the lighter weights. Mayweather victory. Reasonable conclusion.
