Could Chavez dictate the pace like he did against taylor and slowly dismantle mayweather? Or does mayweather spook Chavez with his counters just enough to play keep away and take a decision?
I've said this before on several threads how I feel about Mayweather vs Chavez - I'd take Chavez at 135, and Floyd at 140. Other than 130, 140 was Floyd's best weight. Whilst Chavez was still great at 140, but he was at his VERY PEAK at 135. I personally feel that Duran, Whitaker, and Chavez were the three best lightweights of all time. At junior welter, it's a different story for Chavez. I think Floyd would outbox him over most the first half of the fight, with Chavez rallying late, but not in time to make up enough rounds. Floyd by UD.
In terms of styles, I see Taylor as the bigger threat for Floyd at 140 than Chavez. I would take the Taylor that beat McGirt to also beat Floyd. I just think a prime Mel would have been EXTREMELY difficult for Floyd.

His sparring partner Castillo, who was a teenager when he sparred with him, who fought Floyd 10 years later as a grown man, weighing 20 lb more than Chavez did in his prime, against a Floyd who had an injured shoulder on one side and a broken hand on the other, and STILL FUCKING LOST But maybe you have a point. Chavez won maybe 1 round vs Whitaker early on, let's be generous and give him 2 against Mayweather Jr So, Mayweather Jr 10-2 across the board
Ahh, Floyd and his precious hand and shoulder in the Castillo fight. I thought only LOSERS make excuses??? Not my words, HIS. But being serious, Floyd white washing Chavez is a pipe dream. Something only a Flomo would suggest. Chavez, unlike any other opponent Floyd ever faced, knew how to cut the ring in expert fashion (unlike Crapnelo), understood how to properly pick his shots with no wasted energy (unlike Hatton), and was not that easy of a target to nail cleanly.
He didn't make excuses.. he didn't need to, because he WON THE FIGHT. Then he immediately rematched him and beat him again. Prime Floyd would stand in the pocket and make him miss & make him pay, just like Whitaker did.. Chavez got whitewashed by a coked up Whitaker, what makes you think Floyd couldn't do it?
Well for one, Whitaker was better than Floyd. For two, that fight was at welter. Third, Chavez had slid by 93. I think Whitaker beats him at any point though. This version of Floyd you're discussing must be some mythical version, because the real Floyd Mayweather Jr. has dropped rounds to MUUCCCHHH lesser fighters than Chavez. ONCE AGAIN, I pick Floyd at 140. And since Double only asked about 140, then Floyd is the answer. But a shutout? Yeaaahhhh, okay Leonard Ellerbe.
Whitaker had slid by then too, neither of those guys were welterweights. You want to talk about Floyd dropping rounds, Chavez arguably lost to Juan Laporte edit: I'm not being Leonard Ellerbe, I just think Chavez is one of the most overrated fighters of all time.
Mayweather nearly lost to Julio's sparring partner. (yeah I know he had one arm ripped off by a t-rex before the fight) Chavez decisions him and Floyd has blood in his stool for a week.
