All in all it was a very entertaining card with some good scraps, a handful of highlight reel finishes and enough bleeding in the Tavares-Ortega fight to keep the Red Cross in business. Ironically, Tim Boetsch had the game plan of a barbarian. He went right at Henderson and that aggressiveness cost him. Boetsch charged forward in a straight line. Dan backed up, backed up, then planted his feet and delivered his trademark right hand. I guess Tim never heard of circling away from the big right hand. I'm also on the fence now about Ben Rothwell. I thought he was a relatively durable guy with heavy hands but he seems like a smarter and more relaxed fighter now. I hope the UFC goes with Rothwell-Arlovski II. It will tell us which of these retreads is for real. Dustin Poirer also looks very strong at 155. But I will conditioning that statement by saying he needs to show it against a top 10 guy.
I saw the last 7 fights. 7 finishes, 5 in the first round. Jordan / Lewis and Ortega / Tavares were fun back and forth fights that ended in knockouts. Seeing Mitrione tap out with both hands was priceless. Rothwell / Arlovski 2 would be a fun fight. Rothwell is a serious contender now. He's also the best P4P guy in terms of post fight celebrations and interviews.
This was where he knocked out Overeem in his last fight. Overeem is one of the best kickboxers in MMA. I can't find the shot from the better angle, where you see him dancing and looking right at Overeem's disappointed face while he's on the ground.
I like Rothwell, but he seemed fake and stupid. Hardly any UFC fighters play the pro wrestling schtick because it's stupid in a real sport. Boetsch is a humongous middleweight. Holy crap, that guy was big.
